... so. we're having a civil ceremony on the 20th of this month (at a rock bar, no less!), and doing the official service later on. Anybody else have thoughts on doing things this way? I'm totally convinced it;s the best thing for us.

Congrats!
How is the civil ceremony not official or do you mean you will do something for your friends at the rock bar and something else for family later?
That sounds fun, congratulations! Make sure you control the jukebox that night. It would suck listening to 'Journey' all night or something.
Welcome to the club!
Heh, that sounds like a cool idea.
the thing on the 20th is going to be for us and friends, and then we're going to do the ceremony for the family later. We've never wanted a big huge thing, but my parents do so we figured we'd do a ceremony for us the way we want it and then do one for them later, basically just for show.
Congrats! That sounds like something I'd want too. I mean, the family wants a nice little wedding but that's just not me. I can't see myself going through all that. Luckily the girl I'm with is the same way. It seems like she's the one for me too. But hey, if someone wants to see a pretty wedding and they're willing to pay for it, I'm all for it!
Congratulations! That is so exciting. We eloped too and it was the best.
congrats, the thing i like most about weddings is the debauchery at wedding receptions
Great idea, the big wedding for the family is stressful in my opinion, but I like what your doing. I wish my wife and I would of done it that way.
Me too, but I think me & my lover are just going to elope once he gets home.
I wanted us to just do . . . something for our friends and such but my mother got her panties in a twist so I just said screw it & . . . meh.
Its all too . . . . much.
but I wish you luck : )
Congratulations!
I love the bar idea. My ex wife and I were being very stressed by family wanting a huge wedding with all kinds of guests we haven't seen in half a decade and such, so we ended up eloping. We had a simple ceremony with her two best friends and my two best friends and a preacher back in the woods at a spot we'd frequently used for very non-Christian activities... Then we had our own version of a reception at the bar: burgers, beer, pool, and darts. It was great. Then just let our mothers and grandmothers plan a reception for the family later on.
Hope you love it. The most important part of any relationship is honest communication, don't lie to yourselves or each other and you'll have a much better chance of having a successful and rewarding marriage.
thanks everybody!
congrats
5 days left....tick tock tick tock
Okay, so just a quick lil update-it's done, it's over with, and it was great. We really do have the best friends ever, they're what really made it special. Yay! (plus free booze all around.... haha).
The guy that owns the bar we got married at said the same exact thing. Three times. Must be really good advice!Originally Posted by Gabriel
