So I see a lot of people claiming "pin-up" or "pinup" status on the net. But I don't think they know what the terminology is supposed to mean. What do you think makes a pin-up?

Actually being on a Poster or picture that you can hang onto a wall?
Or where people want to hang pictures of you on their comps, cars, walls, etc.
Szandora ,Jax, and Rachel Face would be Amazing examples.
They are probably among your Hottest Ladies.
Does not show cooch.
a different kind of beauty, one that makes you feel something when looking at them, a sense of awe, maybe?..
To be a pin-up in my mind, the picture needs to keep the sylings of the old 40's pin up girls. Curvy...seductive...teasing... Revealing enough to get a reaction, but leaving even more to the imagination. Unattainable yet fuckable.
It's one of those old fashioned phrases- I think it came from WWII when soldiers would 'pin up' the pics in their barracks or whatever...now you really ever hear it...Betty Page is the last woman you really heard the phrase connected with ...later you have Playmates, etc..poster girls..P.
Classically, I would have to disagree. As it is being misused today, that may be closer to the meaning some folks would like to put out there. If all of a model's pictures are low end photography or mundane expicit 'content', I think they would reduce their likelyhood of being pinned-up in a locker or on a wall or whatever. But, I think of it as more along the lines of sexy pictures of compelling girls or boys printed in well produced magazines, at a full page or foldout size. The combination of photographic or artistic interpretation coupled with the gripping personality of the subject should be so strong that it motivates the viewer to pin the page up so they can be inspired by it all the time.Originally Posted by Will Judy

A number of people are starting to use it again, but I don't think they are using it correctly. I used to pull pages out of cool magazines, like Tattoo Savage, and put them up in my office or dorm room. So, I think the term still applies, but that's not what some people are using it for these days. I think what they really mean falls more under the terminology 'cheesecake.'Originally Posted by pedar

Cheesecake has always been the term, but what makes you sit there, and stare at it, becuase you've captured a true beautiful....essence..thats Pin Up to me. I love Pin Ups
For me it'll always be literal...you gotta be on something I can actually pin up on my wall...crappy webcam pics or amatuer digital cam pics don't count.
A pinup to me is sexiness, and nudity is usually not involved. It's all about the pose and the clothes. I'd rather see a little leg and some nice cleavage and let my mind do the rest.
god bless you Gillian Anderson, god bless you
Pin-up has always been to me a picture that reveals everythign to the imaginiation. You never see nipple or pink, but you see just about everything else. It's the picture of thegirl of your dreams, a fantsy that is so totally unattainable that you put the picture next to your bed or in your locker as something to compare the other girls you meet with. Pure unadulterated fantasy.
