CIRCUMCISION - Yes or No?

Is there any hard science to back that claim up? Because I really want to slap guys who are circumcised and complain of having been denied a portion of their god-given weenie sensitivity.

My problem is, if you have nothing to compare it to, how do you have any idea what you are missing? I think this is encouraging a victim mentality in men using absurd reasoning.

Quite a few years ago I remember seeing some guy who was rabidly anti-circumcision on one of those afternoon talk shows; he was undergoing 'foreskin reconstruction' and claimed that the main reason his life was totally shit was because of his parent's decision to circumsize him--he even went through regression therapy where he remembered the trauma of losing his foreskin in gorey detail--and was actually considering suing them.

As someone who just recently had his first child this is something my wife and I had to seriously discuss.

We ended up deciding to circumcise our child, mostly because of doctors telling us about the lower risk of STD transfer and from the opinions of friends and family that are uncircumcised recommending that we get him cut.

The same doctors who stand to make $500-$1000 for this?

The reason for the circ = less AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa is that the circ'd guys are Muslim and they sleep around far far less.

Nothing to do with foreskin or not.

actually, the OP asked for opinions. sorry you didn't like mine. I don't know many girls who would go near an uncut member. they get torn and bleed too easily, and they carry infections and bacteria more easily than the snipped ones.... even if you wash it. honestly, if I was a guy, I'd rather my parents circumscised me at birth so I'd never remeber it, than decide I wanted it done as an adult when it hurts like a bitch, and would require taking time out my everyday life to take care of it after surgury. Hah and yet as someone mentioned if it was female circumcision it would be a whole nother kettle of worms now wouldn't it? I'm personally against it, neither would I pierce my child's ears before they were old enough to say yes or no.

I am against the altering of ANY things body to suit tradition. Common sense says that almost everywhere outside of the U.S. is mainly uncircumcised and has no health issues, yet somehow we fail to do research on our own and continue to eat happily the shit information local doctors shovel out to us.

it's really up to the parents and what they want to do. I kinda lean towards not doing things towards people without their consent... but I'm not a parent. If I was then i'd be in that situation and I'd have to think about what my choice should be. It really isn't that big of a deal, like I said before, and from what I understand on both camps, it doesn't make much of a difference.

what I really am campaigning for is that it shouldn't be a mark (or lack) of distinction, and be treated like any other elective cosmetic surgery. Ok, so I can see that my previous example was a bit extreme (by western standards) so perhaps a better anaology would be (women's) breast enhancement/reduction.

I just read an interesting article about the study on how circumcision supposedly protects against HIV infection. Since i cant post the link to the article i will just summarize very shortly the most important points:
the author emphasises the lack of evidence of how the virus is exactly transmitted and lack of evidence about the claim that the langerhans cells found in the penile foreskin are really more vulnerable to the infection, and also how those Langerhans' cells (the ones supposed to be vulnerable to HIV in the penile foreskin) are also found in the vaginal mucosa and yet nobody is thinking about amputating the vaginal mucosa. In addition to this the author also mention that if langerhans cells really do have such a big part in the process of HIV infection then women (with a much greater area of their vaginal surfaces covered with them) should be vastly more susceptible to HIV, which is simply not the case.
The author also points out that its interesting how the 'study' claims that circumcision can be a tool for preventing AIDS seeing as how Ethiopia and the US already have high prevalence's of both HIV infection and circumcision.
Now my personal view on this topic, i think its understandable that some girls would "aesthetically" be turned off by an uncircumcised penis, as i also understand how stupidity and shallowness is a turn off for men with uncircumcised penis.
What i really don't understand is how some people are so prone to spread claims that they don't fully understand and don't bother to research; like for example the claim that circumcision could prevent HIV infection. i think this is a very dangerous claim and we should do some research first, and i dont think anybody at this stage will be able to make a definitive conclusion until further studies are made. The truth is that this pro-circumcision fever in america is due to the zionist background and how they feel intimidated by the fact that in a near future they will have to respect humans rights and illegalize male mutilation. About "hygiene",im european, and nobody in europe practises circumcision, (apart from for religious motivations) and to the best of my knowledge europeans have healthy clean penises without strange foreskin-caused infections. So in response to the original post, if you think mutilating somebody without their consent is alright then go ahead, and also as those clever people have stated , even thought its incredibly painful "he wont remember when he is older". and you can always take the risk to use anesthetic drugs in a baby for such an unecessary procedure.
