    Default Windows Vista

So I recently made the switch over to Windows Vista Home Premium, because of the Dell free upgrade thing I had with my computer when I bought it.

Anyways, I was really lazy about it, and have been in the works of upgrading it for about 2 weeks now, probably longer. It really only takes about a day to fully upgrade it with the software dell included.

I was looking forward to the Vista Aero, but since my graphics card isn't powerful enough to handle it, it reverts back to the basics which is eh.

In my honest opinion, I think Vista is overrated. You've got to have this and that and this and that and this and that to enjoy all that is Vista. I miss my XP Home.

    Vista completely BLOWS... but really
what could you expect from Micro$haft,
anything 1st generation is and has been
complete shit, for which the only exception
was WinME and that was just a disaster
    from day one to EOL.

The unfortunate thing is that I work on systems
for people that are STUCK with Vista and you
don't even want to get me started about DELL's...
but once again, M$ has fucked over not only the
end user but everyone in general.. with DX10 being
a Vista only component all new games that are
coming out will only run on Vista, there is no DX10
    or backwards compatibility for XP.

With that said, I do have to admit the new DX10
games look amazing and completely blows everything
else away but it just isn't worth the expense or headaches
of upgrading to Vista and all the extra hardware needed.

And just so you know, I am a member of the M$ beta
test team, so I'm not just a disgruntled user... I really
truly HATE Vista and would NEVER recommend anyone
using it... but to each their own. I'm riding XP Pro until the
    wheels fall off.

Just to give you an idea of how much
a difference there is between DX9 and
    DX10 graphics, take a look....

    DX 9

    DX10

    Click for full size.

Excellent, but just not worth all the Vista
    bullshit.

From what I hear, it's a pile of poo! We won't be upgrading to Vista until all the bugs are worked out.

Yes, completely.(At work we have a computer that has XP, Vista, and Linux on it.) Unless it was free...completely useless. And if you must have it...wait until the computer world adjusted to it or else you are just fucked both security and compatibility-wise. I have WindowBlinds so my visual goodness is set.

I have no intention of using Vista unless required by a place I work at. I love my Mac and I'm looking forward to Leopard (I'd be looking forward to it more if I had an Intel Mac).

well I don't really know anything about computers, I barely know how to use one. people tell me that I'll be cool if I have a mac, so I guess I'll get one of those. which one do you think is best for watching sanjaya videos on you-tube? because that's the only thing I really want to do.

One of the things, that I understand, is that Vista has a program that will delete any file on your computer that dosen't have a digital 'id' number on it. So any MP3's, Vids, or anything that might have been downloaded under less than 'above board' circumstances will be deleted. Zzzzap.

Would never buy a mac because then I couldn't play video games.

Would convert to vista as my game (EVE Online) is one that is going to be using DX10 and it is sexy enough to make my panties wet. So I will grit my teeth and make the jump at some point. However, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't even look at it. XP does what I need to do and anything else is just silly.

Well, with all things said and M$
being M$ after all... if anyone has
    ever installed the first generation
of any OS (especially a MS product)
there is, has and always will be
    problems.

Hell, look at how they are just NOW
getting around to getting drivers out
for the 64bit machines... what, almost
two years later. And just how many
updates, patches and fixes did XP
have before it was considered a
    stable release.

    Vista (aka Longhorn) was beta
    software built with beta software,
which is why they killed off major
portions of it and kept changing
    the release dates.

One of the major of major fuckups
    is the download upgrade version
of Vista... which many people fell
for... guess what, if something happens
to where you NEED THE DISC,
you're fucked... you have to go buy
one. Or just say fuck it and reinstall
    XP or other OS.

    Hardware problems plague Vista,
besides having to have the newest
of the new (which is 'old' in 90 to 180
    days anyhow) many attached devices
either don't have the correct driver support
or just simply aren't supported in Vista..
one of the most common complaints I
hear is about all in one's, printer/scanner/fax
... printer will work, but nothing else will.

    Networking is another problem, especially
if Vista isn't install on all the connected
machines.. and even then it's a crap shoot
    most the time.

Really it's nothing new, I've been using
computers for the better part of two
    decades and anything involving M$,
it's just the same old bullshit as it
    always been.

Vista will eventually be patched, updated
and fixed just like everything before it...
and just as much as I resisted XP in the
pre-RTM days and up to SP1, it has proven
to be an acceptable OS... of course after many
tweaks and such, not since the days of 3.1
have I ran any OS without it being modified to
my liking & tastes to suit my needs and usage.

Hey guys. Damn I haven't posted in a while!

I jsut ordered this sweet little beast! unfortunately, it ships with Vista, and despite my request for it NOT to be installed, apparently its a requirement. So the first thing I do when I gets it? Wipe hte drive clean and install my legit copy of XP Professional hehe.

I'd have bought a Mac if it had as good a gaming graphics card as the ASUS. But the G1 is the best 15.4" you can get in my opinion.

Indeed, I still have a 'laptop'...
about the size of a small
    Samsonite suitcase...
    full of bricks.

    486DX120 with 16Mb EDO
    that runs 3.1... about all
that will fit on the 280Mb HD

Legit or not, the way the M$ legal team
has written the EULA, in most cases
doing anything to the pre-installed OS
violates and voids the warranty of the
equipment especially if not a VLK
    edition.

It's all a bunch of bullshit but it IS Microshaft
after all... and after giving them more money
than most people make in 10 years for their
products, I'm not about to spend another dime
on anything from them ever again. I'll just keep
installing my original XP Corporate VLK on every
machine I own and use, I figure that was what the
$1500 was for... and I'm going to get every red
cent of usage out of it.
