Man convicted after posting videos of self beating stress by beating ferret

SAGAMIHARA, Kanagawa -- A local man has been slapped with 500,000 yen in fines after users on the 2-Channel message board reported him to police for posting videos of himself abusing his pet ferret for relaxation.

For the national holiday on Feb. 12, the man chose to blow off steam by squeezing the ferret's neck, smacking it on the head and clamping his hand over its mouth and nose, despite its cries of distress, according to the Sagamihara Summary Court ruling.

He then posted video of his quiet night in on the popular "Ni-Channeru" (2-Channel) online bulletin board, causing over a thousand people to report him to police and prompting his arrest by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police earlier this month.

Prosecutors indicted him under the Protection and Control of Animals Law after bringing in a veterinarian to analyze the ferret's recorded cries; who, unsurprisingly, concluded that it was in pain.

The defendant told investigators that he abused the ferret and more than 20 other pet animals to relieve stress. (Mainichi)

That is my understanding too. Although, in my personal opinion, it is even lamer to torture an animal than a person and I think torturing people is pretty lame.
