How much has your musical taste changed over the years?

hmm. I guess nu metal would be like 90's stuff. the biggest example would be someone like Korn. not really sure how to define it, or if it's even still around.

as far as goth electronica goes, i'm thinking along the lines of wumpscut and suicide commando, switchblade symphony. I know a lot of people still like those bands, but that's not for me. I still like groups like assemblige 23 (which some may say compares to the others).

what I'm really saying is that now a days I just like a few bands that stood out for me, as part of an eclectic taste, and not so much the genre staples that may or may not be mediocre that everyone was listening to and that one must listen to if they want(ed) to be associated with whatever subculture group.

haven't heard of submachine. i'll check em out.

PS. 5 million songs about beer, fighting and sex, and how that is somehow going to bring about radical social reform and utopia just got really old for me. I prefer something a little more personal and meaningful.

I see. I never liked Korn. I have a few bands (including wumpscut) that were played in clubs (late 90s especially) in my collection. I don't listen to them much though. I like Switchblade Symphony to a point. I'd probably have to start a thread on "genre staples" to go much beyond that. The newer "dark" bands I like seem to fall into a retro-deathrock, psychobilly/horror punk or dark cabaret gig when classified. I skipped over a lot of the electronica and metal bands (although many are talented musicians) I like raw sounds. It takes a lot of innovation to hold my interest beyond that. My actual playlist is dominated by vocalists, classical, and a smattering of the above.

Submachine makes no pretense at social change. They aren't totally apathetic, but I think their music is reflective of some of the follies you notice.

ive had a prety weird taste in music over the years but this is basicaly the gist of it
Gangsta Rap (NWA still gets heavy play in my car stereo)

Metal (summer of 1996 when i discovered Metalica)

Rap Rock( mainly RATM i was prety big on them in middle school)

Classic Rock ( usual stuff like hendrix, jefferson ariplane, and Cream)

Punk (started when i first heard the Casualties and altho they are prety mainstream now i hadnt heard pof em till like 1999 ive been listening to alot of similar stuff since then)

Rockabilly ( ihad actualy been into rockabilly as a kid i liked Jerry Lee lewis, Gene Vincent ,and Buddy Holly but sortof sotped listening to it and rediscovered it early in high school)

Country ( first time i heard Move It On Over, by Hank WIlliams i was hooked on classic country, i then looked into a few more modern artists like Dwight Yoakam)

Psychobilly ( i started hanging out with some dude in Highschool during summer school who was into it and introduced me to a few bands wich i loved and still listen to to this day)

Bluegrass (i got into it when i saw O Borther Where Art Thou and i had the songs in the movie stuck in my head for days )

nowadays i listen to alot of "indie" rock and lately ive been into Southern Crunk Hip Hop, I just tend to go thorugh music phases from time to time. Hell i think i might start listening to opera now since i heard Pagliaci the other day, and my mom raised me on Disco so that always has a place in my heart.

I was always one who pretty much enjoyed all types of music. I did have my moment of being a music nazi but that wasn't me. Still isn't, I listen pretty much all kinds of stuff. I get in my moods for different things but don't get to snobby about what people listen to. I do a bit of work in the music biz now & it has really opened my eyes, especially with regard to the fans. So it is all good to me for the most part.
