Uhm..americans generally use the "Month-Day-Year" system...it's the other side of the world that mostly uses the "Day- Month-Year" thing.
Dunno where you been, but it's been that way since Jan. 1, 0001. Or 0000. Whatever came first.
Difference in dating systems, old boy, between the US and Australia.
In the US, September 11th is rendered as 9/11/(add year here).
In Britain, Australia, and most of the other English-speaking nations of the world, September 11th would be rendered as either 11th September, or 11/9/(add year here).
September 11th, 2001, of which the sixth anniversary passed two months ago this coming Sunday, is when Al Qaida wreaked havoc on the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and, had not the flight heading for Washington D.C not been brought down by its own passengers in a Pennsylvania field, most likely the White House or Capitol Hill(Home of the US House of Representatives and the Senate)would have gone in explosion and fire caused by the impact of a massive jet plane and all its jet fuel, just like with the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Hence, that's why the fuss over 9/11 by us Yanks.
However, 89 years ago on 9th November, there occurred a historical event of signal importance, and that was the German naval mutiny in the north German port of Kiel that quickly turned into a revolution that resulted in Kaiser Whilhelm the Second of Germany fleeing into Holland, the German Imperial Government agreeing to an armistice with the Allies, and the implementation of that armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
In the UK and Canada, the day is still commemorated as Remembrance Day, in the US, from 1919 until after World War Two, when the holiday's name was changed to Veteran's Day, it was known as Armistice Day, and there is one small town in Northern Nevada, Gold Hill, that still celebrates 11th November as Armistice Day.
Don't know if Remembrance Day, or some version of it's celebrated in Australia or New Zealand, but I imagine it would, though maybe not quite the same way as Anzac Day is in both places, eh???
