My main ideal is for two individuals to be able to form a civil marriage contract (I prefer the term marriage. Folks have made perfectly valid comments on civil unions as well here.) Do I believe polygamy etc. is coming? No. I don't morally oppose it, but it is generally used as a slippery slope argument by opponents of same-sex marriage. I think one has to be very specific when addressing this issue.

It is too early to tell if these stats will hold: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/edi...family_values/ Massachusetts had the lowest divorce rate even after the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2003 . It is kind of amusing which states were highest.

Ironically, Bush may have helped swing this vote. He nominated conservative Cali Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown (staunch opponent of same-sex marriage) to the D.C. Circuit. 4-3 decision. I haven't read as yet whether her replacement was in the majority.

When I met my husband, I felt married to him almost right off the bat....
When we went to the courthouse and they sold us a little piece of paper, the preacher signed and left us with a perforated portion....didnt make us feel married.
We felt just the same. Its of MY belief that marriage exists within, and bound by a vow.

But some people feel its necessary to do the deed, and they should have that right.
