Man arrested at Macy's for carrying sword

    from action news

NEW YORK (AP) - May 26, 2008 -- A man who was carrying a rusted pirate's sword while at Macy's flagship store in Manhattan is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say 29-year-old Lawrence Jackson was brandishing the curved sword while visiting Macy's Herald Square store Sunday with his girlfriend.

He told police that he was carrying the sword because he is a member of a kickball team who often wear pirate-themed costumes. He maintains he was on his way to a game when he was arrested.

Police Officer Richard Perrone says Jackson may consider the sword a toy, but he says it is not.

Police say that when they approached Jackson about 4 p.m., he dropped his sword. It struck the ground with a clanking noise.

    what about the second amendment?

there's zero reason to charge him unless he was using it in a threatening manner.

The rules here in NYC are very clear, you can't carry shit.

Only criminals get to have weapons fuck the second amendment. (Them's the breaks in New York.)

You can apply for a concealed carry permit, but barring being law enforcement, or a large pile of cash, you'll get old waiting for it.

Various celeberties (Howard Stern for example), rich folks, and folks who do high end security work can have guns, but if you smack someone with a tube of toothpaste it's attempted assult with a deadly weapon. That's just how it is here.

And quite frankly that's the way it has to be, otherwise you'd have people slicing, and dicing each other with pizza cutters, bashing heads in with frozen turkeys, and you don't even want to know... It's NYC baby, they'll find a way.

Things are a lot calmer since the NYPD instituted it's shoot to kill with the first shot policy around here, but there are still plenty of dumbfucks out there.

And like I said, the criminals just don't care, they carry whatever they want, where ever they want. It just makes it easier to lock them up afterwards.

So, no. You cannot carry a sword openly around NYC without the NYPD getting in your shit.
