from a second story window is pretty good
from a second story window is pretty good
If you ask me, none of them.
i agree there isnt any good metal around at the moment......Damageplan are pretty amazing though
I happen to like Black Dahlia Murder, which I recently saw on TV for the first time. But I wouldn't really call that NuMetal.
It seems all new metal bands are just bitting off so called old metal bands and are doing a poor job of it too. Most if not all new metal bands have not spent enough time learning thier instruments befor they get hitched up for a record contract. There are simple to many bands and not enough talent.Originally Posted by postcoital
As for Black Dahlia Murder they kick ass
but I think they just prefer to remain under ground .
Well they're not nu-metal, but some of the newer metal bands that I've really enjoyed lately have been God Forbid, Evergrey, and Children of Bodom.
I dont care if these are new bands or not.
Arch Enemy
In Flames
Dimmu Borgir
The Haunted
DEATH
Dimmu Borgir
dunno
Children of Bodom are NEW?! heh, I got my first CoB album like 6 or 7 years agoOriginally Posted by ragefoto
Anyway, what's with System of a Down actually? Dunno how to call them, but I really like their music
Not new, but newly reformed are Cemetary and the sister project Sundown. Gothic metal over a synth skeleton with some real depth and intelligence. The first album or so are pretty standard Death Metal though.
Some good, newer bands I have heard recently: Torchbearer, Severed Savior, Dark Faith, Unholy Ghost, Illogicist, Estuary, Sauron. I have only heard individual songs from them online though, so I make no guarantees as to their overall quality.
New(ish): Arch Enemy, Kataklysm, In Flames.
Nu: Spineshank. Most other "nu" metal is pretty craptastic, imho.
Only band that I like and could be called numetal is Murder Dolls.
I'd have to go with Otep..... very poetic, yet hard
18 Visions
Honey, I'm old. A band that's only been around about 7 years is pretty new for me. LOLOriginally Posted by postcoital
I'll have to agree with those who have said none of them....I am not very impressed with the new bands that the companies are spewing out. However, I do find that older bands are putting out some good new stuff, such as Marilyn Manson, Down (Phil from Pantera) and so on. Atleast these ones can write a good song/lyrics, even if they do sport a gimick. I am all about lyrics. This is the shit that they should be playing on the top 20 countdowns/mainstream metal lists. These new "artists" have some crappy gimicks, like horror masks and painted faces or slutty looking women. This is what sells thier records and they can't write decent lyrics to save thier lives. Gimicks suck anyways, it's all been done and said before.
Most of the bands that you guys are listing off aren't mainstream, and in my mind that's what nu-metal is....like those Slipknot, kittie, MTV/MuchMusic video kids. Or those guys with the painted white faces and bullet holes in the foreheads with blood dripping down outfits, they won best new viseo award on MTV alongside Brittany Spears. (I can't remeber their names. It'll come to me....)
I would just love to see Varg Vikernes go to MTV awards.
hey midnight, i think mainstream and "new" are two different ideas, at least to myself. "new" would be anything that i've never heard before and "mainstream" well, that's just crap!Originally Posted by MidniteCliche

i cant remeber the last time i saw cattle decapitation on MTV or the VMAsOriginally Posted by MidniteCliche

The only new metal band I tolerate......... is Soulfly........... only because I love Sepultura.
I kind of like really punky metal bands, like Electric Frankenstein and Lost at Last. Lost at Last is pretty hilarious and socially relevent, with lots of death metal flourishes mixed with hair band stuff, pretty funny actually, little bit like the Meatmen too. As far as old metal bands go, I still listen to Gwar (my girl got me some for Christmas).
I thought he mean't 'new' as opposed to 'nu' metal. I hate all these deliberately dyslexic tags. Nu-metal seems to be falling out of favour fast as a subgenre - most bands don't like to fall into the category and there doesn't seem to be much agreement on what it means anyhow (broadly American metal with a rap influence though other's would no doubt disagree). Meanwhile the music press continue to throw the 'nu' term around - nu-goth, nu-punk, nu-nu-metal mebbe? - as if it's going out of fashion. Which it is.
Nah, not atleast for few years.Originally Posted by nausiatingpain

Damn you, I wanted to say that ,pOriginally Posted by nausiatingpain
Wow, I am really out of sink with popular entertainment and news surrounding it. I don't really watch television and I certainly don't go to the movies unless it's one I have on the highest recommendation from someone who knows far more about the subject than I do. I guess I divorced Hollywood a long time ago and haven't seen, heard or talked to "her" since.Originally Posted by Caligula

And I have to agree with the Black Dahlia Murder Comments. They Do indeed rock!
Anyone heard the new Fear Factory? I no theya re not new but they have anew release.....
and I am Sticking with The Haunted....
a buddy got the new ff for me...heavy/fast drum beats but that's all that really appealed to me...thier first album was alright, not a fan though.
Fear Factorys new record sounds a bit too much numetal, I really liked their previous record.
hmmm I dunno i heard a song and having been in a dare I use a label..."jazzcoreband" I liked the sound probably the drumming...just wondering.....I actually have a sampler I got out west with awhole bunch of new bands on it....things is it was in one of thpose sleeves and I lost thedamn thing....there are some good bands on it...as for the new metal thing.....it's not new...the whole doublebass drum thing has been around for a while..hehehhehehhehehe double bass....something makes me go so aggro when I hear that...
Sounds like I have to do some downloading soon.
I haven't heard some of those bands, and I want to check them out.
I too have not heard much good in a while on the metal front.
The Haunted are ok. Similar to Slayer.
Bolt Thrower are good, but I really hate "growly" vocals, no matter how cool the music.
(Immortal, same problem...)
I like a few Slipknot songs, etc, but yeah, a lot of Numetal is not very good.
I've been listening to a lot more EBM and stuff like that, simply because
there is not much good on the metal side anymore...
But I will try checking out some of the bands you mentioned.
Otep. Good lyrics. Meaningful. And strong, powerful voice.
As I Lay Dying
any 1 hear of beyond the flesh? im not in to the death metal type of signing but u might so check them out
