Default Have you cheated on your significant other?

And are you Male or Female, gay or straight? It's a pretty simple YES or NO question.

I'll go first... YES, gay male

Yes, but the guy I was cheating on was cheating on me too, with 3 girls, it was a bad relationship.

    No, bi, male.

I've had relationships overlap and I've had plenty of casual intimacy with outsiders, but (arguably) barring the first year and a half of my very first romance I've never kept monogamous relationships, which leaves the concept of 'cheating' rather meaningless to me.

male, hetro. never, will continue to say no on that subject.

had it happen to me a few times and it damn near destroyed me each time. i'd never subject someone else to that

Y'know that the bigger a deal you make in your head about how horrible and destructive it is, the worse it's gonna hurt?

On a purely practical level, it doesn't affect you one bit unless your lover is dumb and catches you an std. It's all about expectations, your idea of the model of your relationship, and for some people insecurity with the idea of being actively compared to others.

    yeah i figured that.

tbh i just don't expect anyone to see the world like i do. it leads to less disappointment. people consider words cheap nowadays and tend to band about a lot of things when they don't really mean it. I'm old fashioned in a lot of respects

    Yes - straight male.

I'm not proud of it, but I'm not gonna lie.. I think I've cheated in almost every long-term relationship I've ever been in. Sometimes because she cheated first. Sometimes because we had stayed together too long and neither one of us had the balls to breakup without a reason other then "i'm fucking bored with you". Sometimes I was just horny and drunk.

Lately I've finally learned to just be up front about not wanting anything serious / marriage / kids etc when I meet a woman. Amazingly the I-dont-really-give-a-shit attitude seems to attract more then it scares off.

The only time I ever cheeted on a girl is when I kissed my current ex wife when I was seeing someone else. That was dumb.

Wow, I finally agree with you all the way. The only way I could "cheat" is if I was dishonest and sneaky about it. Otherwise we have our fun freely (sometimes together) but without being promiscuous. If your relationship is tight and you're honest and secure it shouldn't matter.
Have I been fidelious? No. Have I ever cheated? Again, no. Oh yea, straight male, bi wife.

In the past with other significant others...Yes, but never to the point of actual sex. Although, since they are past "others", I should have just done the deeds. I said no to some NICE sure things because of my relationships. Where did that get me back then? The relationships still ended...And usually badly, so yeah, I kind of regret not taking up the offers I had.

Same here, with gay boyfriend... 6 years together. We usually play together, though I know he flirts with other guys I don't think he's cheated on me behind my back besides that one time..

Ab So Lutely. Unalienable. Even if we weren't as "open" as we are I couldn't bring myself to say "Sorry, it's only pussy-on-a-stick from now on. Get used to it."

That's probably because most of us have been there, done that, and feel the same way. Ok, well, me anyway..

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... that was fuckin hilarious.

I know what you mean though.

I must ask, for the definition of cheating.

If you mean, sex with someone else than the one I'm dating, or married to?

    NO. Never.

(extramarital experimentation that's CONSENSUAL with both partners doesnt count)

I like to think of my husband and myself as open but monogamous.
    We're both bi.
(but I'm really uncomfortable with THE BI label because of various technicalities)

Wow that's a good way of looking at it. We do consider ourselves monogamous.

That is a flat out cop-out if you're cheating on someone who perceives the relationship with you as monogamous. You are lying and you are hurting another person. It's simply an excuse for yourself to make you feel better.

However, I don't think there is anything wrong with polygamy. I would personally feel that a greater number of polygamist relationships [that is, both parties acknowledge the relationship as open] relative to monogamous would be considered an evolution of the monogamous relationship.

Note, though, I know there are exceptions to cheating like when the other party has obviously cheated and you know the relationship is going to end soon anyway. This doesn't include getting drunk and hooking up with a hot chick that isn't your girlfriend because you wanted to. You're just a fucking jackass.

Now that's what I'm talking about!!! I'd prefer to have a polygamous relationship than to just hook up.

My thing about true polygamy is how do you please everybody equally without someone feeling shafted. Not just in sex, but on the total relationship?

In a sense, that's like, if you have more than one child, how do you make them feel equal?

This is just a foreign concept for most people....
There are lots of polygamist relationships that work... but they're not guaranteed to work any more than a typical marriage.
    For the same reasons.

Will it be more complicated? Possibly, but there are many benefits also that reasonably can not be denied.

say for example my Mrs cheats on me.

it still does not give me the right to do the same.

its a sign that things should end between us and to go our seperate ways, hopefully still amicably so.
