Have you ever been fired from a job?
Have you ever been fired from a job?
no
i lied... i just remembered that i was fired from Wendy's fast food joint when I was in high school. i got into a 'play' knife fight with the dishwasher in the back. And he ended up cutting my hand, which needed stitches, which the company had to pay for, which the manager fired us both when he saw the paperwork.Originally Posted by drewblood
yep, and everytime it happened it was for "not fitting in". never for things like being late, missed days, etc.... so I guess you could say I was laid off, not fired. but to me it's the same thing.
there's a reason why i like to work for myself.
From Sears, for "Not being where they thought I should be for having been there as long as I was." Mind you i finished my 6 weeks of training in 2 weeks, never missed a day, was never late, dotted all my i's and crossed all my t's, stopped three shoplifters (one with a nice switch blade, ask me about that some time!), etc, etc. but the uptight born again mid west #$&@* in the front office didn't like having "one of them there Goth Kids" on staff (say in Fargo accent).
From Taco Bell, for letting it slip that I was moving.
And from Lido's. though I don't know if being told by the owner of the club that if i set foot on property again he's calling the cops, is the same as being fired. I broke the DJ's jaw for trying to stick his fingers in places he was not invited to.

if we're counting strip clubs, i've been fired from only a few.
i'm sitting here surfing porn and trying to get fired from my current job.... problem is i am one of the owners of the company (and the only thing resembling an IT guy that we have....) National Sales Director/Help Desk/Customer Service/VP/procrastinator....
i was fired from a job or 2 in high school..... but that was many years ago
Twice, both times a case of "fit" as opposed to doing anything wrong.
As for laid off, has happened twice as well.
Glamor Shots - Official reason: Arrived late for one shift. Real reason: Manager and I didn't get along.
Kinko's - Official reason: Didn't have enough creative initiative. Real reason: Manager and I didn't get along.
Border's - Official reason: Not getting enough people to sign up for Border's Rewards. Real reason: Manager and I didn't get along.
Also, in college I was fired from a restaurant for not showing up for my shifts. I wasn't showing up because they never informed me I had been hired, nor did they ever call to see why I wasn't showing up for my shifts. WTF? So, technically, can you be fired from a job you didn't even know you had?
i think i see a pattern here....Originally Posted by HeadlessBill

I do like to tell people when they're wrong and sometimes that can be an issue with managers and higher up folks. I did have a former boss who disliked me, for various reasons, including telling her when she was wrong, and she also didn't like it that none of the other workers were really friendly with her and everyone loved me, so she tried writing me up for anything she could, she even tried blaming me for some of her mistakes and even taking credit for some of my work. She ended up getting fired a while after I switched stores, its called karma bitch, haha.
Sounds pretty much like my situations where I was fired. Note the inane reasons I was fired. (see above) I mean, creative initiative at a copy shop?Originally Posted by SyntheticShock
Yea, my bosses usually love me, and put up with my non sense once they actually get to know me, but the 'upper mangment" can't take it when you correct them, geez.
And yea, I can see how you have to be creative to work in a copy shop, you know, putting the paper in the machine, thats pretty damn creative. Maybe you should have danced a little when you were copying?
Got fired once for a bullshit reason. Signed up for unemployment and then my company told unemployment they wouldn't pay it because I was terminated. I told the unemployment lady that it was a bullshit reason that I got fired and if the company wants, I'll take their ass to court since I knew I would win. Company cowered. I got my unemployment and lived off that company's teat for six months. Yay Ajax! Don't tread on me......

same bullshit reasons as everybody else.
the last job where they fired me they tried to say that they were afraid I was going to flip out and go postal on them.
I was like 'hmmm, well I wasn't thinking about it until you mentioned it...'

I feel kinda dumb for falling for the same thing twice, im not even sure an employer is allowed to do that lol.
*bows* A fire witch's fury tempered with extensive Kung Fu training is not something you really want to mess with. esp not when you've been steadily pissing her off for three weeks.

never fired..........I was 'let go' after a week because I wasn't quite what they were looking for.............does that count?
wait a minute, I was fired once, but only because they knew I hated working for them and I'd set up everything so a cretin could do it
Got fired from Tim Hortons for blowing up timbits and stealing chocolate milk. I was 14.
Got fired from a fruit & vegetable store b/c I used to sit behind the counter and read instead of picking through mountains of apples to find rotten ones(as if!)..oh and for stealing food. I was 18.
Fired from another coffee shop for being rude to customers. People are jerks and I can't fake being nice. Oh..and for stealing food. I was 19.
Anyway, I've been at my current job for almost 6 years now, they put up with me b/c I'm just that good.
Been fired once for "not being good with the tools". I had issue of destroying things carelessly, but not intentionally.
Real reason: Guy that found that job for me was middle hand that would hire me out for next 6 months to the company and take some percent. He asked for more money and I accidentally found out about it.
Once I was almost fired like 5-6 times But they realized on the end that it was stupid idea. Company was formed of around 30 (all from ex-Yu :/ ) guys installing fiber optic network into the apartments. Biggest project in Europe at the time with over 6000 apartments. I played great deal in logistics but the guy that was project leader in my team was almost dead when I was done with that company. Don't ask about details. That's when I went of to Norway instead of dealing with rednecks who starts companies just to raise money after concurs.
Besides that I'm I great guy that everyone gets along with Of course, full of wisdom and teachings and similar crap. Just put on smile number 6 and all is good.
I have been fired from a few jobs and every time it was the same reason.
"Things just aren't working out."
Sometimes it was deserved, sometimes it wasn't. Thing is, if they fire you for say missing shifts they have to document it. If "it's just not working out" then they don't have to prove anything.
Unless my boss is reading this, in which case I have never been fired. Ever. And every time I leave a job they weep for forty days and beg me to return.
I got laid off from my first "real" job because their wasent enough work and the job before that was dishwashing. I was the best they had and they gave all my shifts away because I was getting a full time jobe soon- that was about 5 months ago - I was told that one of the othr kitchen hands wanted more shifts when I know that he didnt want or need them and I know that my boss was taking shifts and giving them to people who wernt getting paid as much so she could keep the profits.
My first job was working in a fast food shop for a family friend, and at the time I was with a royal PRICK of a boyfriend.
The boyfriend had me skip shifts, call in sick, he just distracted me in a huge way and I was pretty immature about it, so one day when I went to pick up my roster, I got it and my name wasn't on it anywhere.
So, I rang my boss and said, "What's the go?" and he said, "Sorry Cat but.... I was meaning to tell you... I'm letting you go..."
So a few tears, a bottle of Wild Turkey and five DVDs of Family Guy later... I was over it.
I'm much more mature about my work now, and the only reason I had to leave my most recent job was because of an injury. They actually want me back as soon as I'm better.
If you have to go, do it in style:

for basically putting the store manager in his place verbally (which at the time sent him scurrying off blubbing).
karma came round to him though.
I got fired from the Santa Ana Zoo for chasing chickens (and for supposedly walking over the pond..which I never did, at the bird aviary) the supervisor just didn't like me that asshole! and lied about it so i got fired, but it's okay cuz when I left that job I got hired at the Santa Ana Cemetery
Happened once with a shaddy call center no longer in operation where I was living at the time. Long story short the asses were firing people left and right for bogus reasons and tried to get out of paying unemployment. Long involved process as they fought every step of the way. Gotta love cooperate America.
Yup. Bad night shift where people slacked off. I didn't fit in. Two people wrote a false report that I yelled at a resident and I was fired without question or investigation by the director.
Sure. Once or twice. Layed off, actually. The creative industry bites when it comes to job security. I always was put on freelance call though, and that was fine. Got paid more that way.
Incidentally, I have also fired clients. Some people are just not worth your time. I had one design client that paid pretty well try to tell me I should spank my daughter. I escorted him out of my studio and told him to never come back.
