Where the hell do you go to karate at? Mortal Kombat School?? GET OVER HERE!
p.s. happy beatup birthday
Would just like to assure everyone that this is not the average Happy Birthday deal here in OZ ....
Happy Birthday though Dusk
Its ok...I think.
The sensei is waiting for a full class, but Im not sure about the teacher I have on sundays.
He was hinting he was going to do it with the smaller class.
what a vicious little bully.
birthdays in my martial arts class usually involve a meal and a night out.
happy birthday dusk, hope you enjoy the day otherwise
It was great (I got my leather jacket, and was going to get a trench coat, cept my parents couldnt find any) and I am haveing a barbeque lunch with my friends tomorrow...wait its now tommorow.
Must sleep.....
snore well
Happy birthday hun
lol I used to take Kick Boxing and TaekWondo... and yeah that's how they celebrate Birth days with a good beating. =)
Happy Birthday Dusk. Too bad I do not go to the same place you go, I would've loved to give you a couple punches to the gut.
PS:If you wanna push them back good, try to kick their knees in, or just slap them in the ear that works... but I guess you can't do that in Karate, only Kick Boxing allows that kind of Violence.
no not the knees. wrong angle and you'll make the poor devil lame
Poor Dusk, ill drink to your health in a moment
We are only aloud to use our fists and hit between the sloulders and hips.
I am going for my yellow belt in about 2 weeks if I has the munnies.
My teacher said Im at an orange belt level, but we both think I should go through the belts in order.
NOTICE- THIS THREAD IS WHERE I WILL NOW POST KARATE UPDATES.
Tonight we practiced Kumite (sparring).
I was with a red belt cos he was the closest to my height.
After telling "no contact" for the 4th time the sensei let us go for it.
I think Tony (my sparring partner) was suprised I was getting him so much.
The look on his face after he blocked my punch hard enough to spin me around and I ot him in the gut was priceless, as was the one when I cought his leg and hit him in the chest.
Also the sensei said I can go for my yellow belt grading next month.
Yay!so all i all a very sore fun night.
aaaah we where "conditioning" (learing to take a hit) tonight.
We had a sensei-in-training there as well so much fun.
Exercise 1: stand in a circle and pass a back fist to the gut around
Exercise 2: everyone lines up and hits the person in front of the line in the stomach twice then the person changes.
I learned some tricks (like tensing up your abdominal muscles and breathing out before contact) so it wasent as painful as i thought.
My sensei gave my the graping slip to day.
To get it I had to do 1st kata perfectly, BLINDFOLDED.
and if I gant get 40 bucks by next sunday he said he will lend my the money.
Thank you for sharing your progress.
That's kewl as hell!
Thats ok, glad you find it enjoyable
YAY
I got my yellow belt the other day.
I will post a pic of me in my gi tomorrow night hopefully
Awww yea...Im going to be preforming my Kata (Tokyo Shogan) at the tournament in 11 days, and Sensei Tai said that once I get warmed up I can do it perfectly.
I was doing it so good on sunday he got my other teacher, Mel, to come see.
Aparently I have a good chance at getting the gold.
Therein lies his problem.Originally Posted by Dusk

I've surprised many a black belt by blasting my OTHER fist through the gaping hole his "block to the edge" block made. Especially when he blocks that, the same mistake, with his other hand, and I trap both arms with a downslap block and drill him with the third punch.
Wing Chun for the win
Next sunday we are going to spend the whole lesson going over tournament sparring, shuld be fun.
i prefer the kalaripayat method of using his energy put into the punch to snap the tendons in the shoulder and shatter the wrist, possibly if fast enough crack more than one bone in the hand.
viscous and i hope not to use it but i'll train to be effective
Aww, Happy bday.
I never get beaten on my birthday *Weeps*
Well, at least now we know what to get you.
Oh and HW, I prefer the "one inch punch"
I had my tournament today. I came 4th or 5th cos I didnt see my score.
But im still in the top six, so I got invited to the Nationals in November.
I didnt enter the sparring, cos I didnt have the pads when I entered, but I watched the rest of my age group and they where pathetic, they throw ONE punch and take THREE steps back....
I got a temporary job, so I have enough money to go to the tournament, plus theres a smaller one coming up that im going to enter.
Woo, if I can get bout 50 bucks by this sunday I get to grade again, but Im skipping orange tip.
Well I got my new belt.
Here are some pics from my grading:
And here are some pics of the people I normally train with:
The guy on the right is my regular sparring partner, and he just got his brown belt
The other person I like to spar with, she got her green belt and recently wont the national tournament in both Kata and Kumite
This kid got his first (second?) black tip, and if is brother could be bothered to train at the black/brown belt class he coud have gotten his first black belt.
that is so awesome. if i had enough money, i'd totally take a martial arts class. though having lived with someone for five years who was obsessed with martial arts (you'd think i'd havve learned something, eh?) i'm rather picky about making a decision.... halp?
oh and 'grats on the new belt :3
Congrats on the belt man
And yeah Soma, martial arts are a lot of fun. It just depends on what you want to learn/interested in.
I tried the whole karate/taekwan-do etc deal but doing katas all day was really boring. So found a more pro-active school with Ninkyohen-do and Jeet-Kun Do. Both schools taught ground fighting/grappling and full contact fighting. I feel you got a much better experience from it.
If I had the money I'd join the mixed martial arts gym down the road but they're expensive.... So instead I just play SCA lol.
Congrats on the belt man!
Yeah Soma, martial arts are alot of fun. Just depends on what you're interested in and want to accomplish.
I tried the whole karate/Tae-Kwan do deal but got bored with all the katas and huge amounts of $$$.
So found a guy teaching Ninkyohen-Do and tried that out. Its based off jeet-kun do and we did alot of ground fighting/grappling/sparring. Went and did a Naga tourny and that was fun.
However, if you really want to learn 'self defense" and not just a fun sport..then I'd look up Krav Maga or Jeet Kun Do.
Krav Maga was created by the Jews over in Israel and is all about killing/stopping your foe as fast as possible. Its a war time/self defense martial arts that is not pretty but brutal and very violent and there is not alot of tournys that I know of.
Or can look for Jeetkun Do invented by bruce lee. it has alot of stand up, ground fighting and self defense. Plus bruce Lee was awesome.
i want to learn how to kill someone with my bare hands. XD
no, really, i want practical defensive skills. so something like, what? aikido? bushido? jujitsu? i forgot which is which. aikido is the way of peace or some shit, right? ai means love, anyway.
-_-
edit: heard a lot about krav maga from my tyler, too. seriously. if it exists, he knows a lot about it. it's just "what can i find close by that is useful to me and not a bunch of bullshit?"
Awesome double post.
Aikido is non-violent throws/joint locks etc. Police use it alot to subdue attackers. Im kinda leery on it though. If someones trying to kill you then trying to play with him and throw him down seems dumb.
Go look up Krav Maga or Jeet Kun Do. They're the most modern and realism based martial arts of the age in my opinion.
If you can't find those then just be leery and read alot if you're going to do another style. In my opinion most martial arts become mall ninjas and make huge $$$'s off selling you expensive gi's, belts, awards and not letting you progress till you give them a good kata dance routine. gayyyy.
We have to know our kata and show discipline and physical developement before we can grade, but the kata is only to show that you can do more than just stand there throwing the strikes.
It is expensive, my gi set me back $105, but its a awesome canvas one, so its worth it, and we get our pads, gis, etc through our instructers, so it normall turns out cheaper.
Ive almost converted my friend from tae-kwon do th karate after we had a first-to-11-points sparring match, and he only got to 3 after doing tae-kwan do for 2 years.
