I thought this was going to be a rant about a new moniker for alt. porn, but instead it's about something even lamer...
...I dimly seem to recall a time when "indie" music became "alternative", and it was all being bank rolled and marketed to the hilt. later we had "nu-metal" the thought of which is just so nauseating that my brain has seized up, and refuses to follow this tangent any longer...
..."adult alternative"? seems like there's no fucking alternative anymore, it's all john mayer, and miley cyrus... they're really just the same fucking person, and the music's all the same regurgitated strained infant diarrhea... 50 cent? c'mon, rappers of the past would scoff at his lyrics as being illiterate. (Yeah, so what if he's rich, blah, blah, he still can't rhyme.)
...alright, time for buster to go sit on the rocking chair on the porch, and polish his muzzle loader, and mutter about the damn kids stealing his dentures again.
I'm not certain why I would want to take notice of an 'alternative' sub-category of mtv music. It strikes me as somewhat akin to designating a corner of an antiques' store exclusively to its most modern aquisitions.
That's weird and not particularly interesting.
Worth laughing at, I guess...

70's rock is way more cool than "adult alternative" uless were talikg about the grateful dead.
you know, at this stage of things I think I'd rather take the GD than john mayer, or cold play... nobody's devoting their lives to following those guys around.Originally Posted by VoltaireBlue

My roommate frosh year of college was really into the Dead. I went to a concert with a bunch of my collegiate pals one time and I was the designated driver on the way there because they all wanted to do drugs I had no interest in. Apparently my jokes about my driving increasing drug paranoia were not as funny to others as they were to me and someone else drove us all home. I just felt like I needed the experience points, but I think maybe the drugs were necessary to really experience it.

It's a pain when you're the only one in the party not going ding. Probably ended up at like, 4987/5000; shoulda kicked the mail man's ass on the way in, that might've done the trick.Originally Posted by Amelia G

I want my VH-1.
I honestly don't know who any of those people are. I've completely lost even a passing interest in who's doing what by what moniker in the world of tv and radio. Not just because it sucks, but because there's so much else out there to occupy my interest, keeping up with maistream is like keeping up with current trends in Micronesia. There's no shortage of good music to listen to out there, "good" being subjective, but you won't find much of it in any of the aforementioned sources. There really are some incredible things going on right now in music and performance.
What would be cool, though, if i'm not dating myself, would be a classic Mtv channel. Not just one that played old videos, but would rebroadcast early Mtv from the beginning.
videos were way cooler when they didnt have the budget
. Honestly I also dont know the bands mentioned.
I often wish radio would return to the hotbed of local musics that it came from, then again I prefer what people can do without all of the overproduction. Simple recording often has a more human feel and depth.
I pretty much stopped paying attention to new music somewhere around 1996.
There have been some decent bands and such since then but I'm sort of a music snob. I much prefer the older stuff like, from the 60's on. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past but to me that was real music.
AT last glance MTV just became another haven for reality tv. 2 channels of it even and the ball doesn't show that much anymore. As for adult alt, that's like saying the shit I took today is better than the one I took yesterday. I think though on a side note here the art of the music video is a dying breed since fewer and fewer outlet on satellite or cable will broadcast them. Just as video killed the radio star, MTV killed the video star.Originally Posted by Amelia G
