Skindred......................... damn I love their cd
I don't know your tastes but heres what I'd recommend to anyone-
BILE- if hell had a studio this is what they'd churn out!! Demonic electronic!!!
If by some chance you have no TOM WAITS- then get some- (and just having PRIMUS' "Tommy the Cat" isn't enough)- personal recommendations are Bone Machine, or Franks Wild Years.
Whenever I have money to just buy CDs, without a particular one in mind- I usually work on updating my punk collection- MISFITS, DEAD KENNEDYS, BLACK FLAG, DAYGLO ABORTIONS, EXPLOITED, FEAR, X, etc...etc...
Another little heard of but cool band to check out is SUGARSMACK-
have any RASPUTINA?- thats a fine choice!!
Like metal? heavy? serial killers? Give MACABRE a listen!! definitly unique. http://www.murdermetal.com/wounded.htm
like I said I don't know your tastes but one of my favorites is MORPHINE, they made some amazing grooves- drums, sax, and a 2-string-slide bass.
and two soundtracks that I can't stop listening to are "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", and "The Triplettes of Belleville"
a cool place to look for music is UNDERGROUND INC.- http://www.undergroundinc.com/
Theres actually a lot of cool artists there- and you can pick up like 5 CDs for 20 bucks!!
hope that helps some-
disciplin a kitchme
I know you gonna like them

Hopesfall - No Wings To Speak Of
It's an EP so you can probably find it cheap. the real gift rests in the music itself. for 4 songs it feels so complete. I dunno if you are familiar with Hopesfall, but they have a new kind of spacey/dreamy sound to their music. I also highly recomend their albulm "The Satellite Years" but you should start with "No Wings To Speak Of"
The music itself is simpley put BEAUTIFUL.
No Wings To Speak Of
1. Open Hands To The Wind
nothing can be obtained by grasping at the wind
there is no escape from the dualism of life, vanity of vanities.
i am embittered towards humanity for its failures
yet i possess all of these same shortcomings
there is grief in wisdom, there is sorrow in truth
yet, the heart of the wise is in the house of mourning
and by sad countenance the heart is made stonger in time
so, i embrace this burden and weep for the fools that chase
the wind
2. April Left With Silence
silence.
silence was the last words we spoke
it filled the air heavy with forevers
and the failing smells of yesterday
"this wasn't my intention..." is now a haunting...
the ghost of wispering thougths
ive bled these nights dry with tears
so, here's to sleepless cold and dreams of insecurity
and like before, im left with silence
and the sound of a heart breaking
it's pieces crumble to the floor, promise falls quiet
between stillness and silence, i hear your voice say
"my child i will pick up the pieces"
promise falls guiet between stillness and silence.
3. The End Of An Era
my searching eyes have never been so intrigued to see you, i guess
you found a way to make ten miutes last forever,
with each passing moment we drift further away...
closer to our chosen paths
but i can't help remebering what was...
what might have been
but i have been warned by those who have
passed this way before,
and to them i am grateful
and as for you i am also grateful
and i pray that you find the peace
you have been longing for.
4. The Far Pavilions
how could i endure one more sunrise in this cold
and unfamiliar place?
where friends pass by like autumn leaves
only stay for a season.
my heart dead to the smallest act of compassion
it gave them no reason to break the cycle of
the passers by.
their actions made trust a failed practise
so here i stand on this hill alone, never turning back
in hopes that the past will fade

Yea I love that Hopesfall albulm. it has a complete feeling that leaves you wanting more. calming but overflowing with energy. listen to the song Dana Walker, at about 1:45 seconds into the songs turns into a masterpiece. (atleast to my ears)
I think you should listen to Ensiferum. They're an amazing folk metal band from Finland. I only have the album Iron, but they also have a self titled one that is supposed to be better. They use a lot of traditional instruments with their music. The vocals vary also, sometimes growls are used and sometimes clean vocals. They're either used combined in one song, and other times just one style is used throughout one song. A lot of my friends liked them, even people who weren't really into metal.
underoath
I'd pimp them out to catholic priests.
I don't like european bands. all their music is ripped off from american bands, the only thing they really invented was techno. and even that's arguable.
Fuck off. the US music industry has been two steps behind europe since the Beatles.
wrong.
and the beatles were inspired by american bands, so I guess you guys have been ripping us off since day one.
rock n roll, rap, disco, jazz, blues, country, gospel, funk- all invented in america.
No offense or nothing is meant... but I didn't like that CD much. To each his own I guessOriginally Posted by hewhoisagod
all of which were 'Inspired' by african and european traditional music.

A good album?
Arch Enemy - Stigmata. Best damn arch enemy album, period.
3 Inches of Blood - Advance and Vanquish. Omfg. Just a great metal(core) album.
ah crap, i missed this thread til the cds were chosen already. but i wanted to suggest something anyways, so...ive been liste3ning to the band Luxt since i got their cd last year. almost constantly in my cd player. i have way too many cds to choose from, but i keep sticking something by them back in. they describe themselves as "cyber voodoo rock." id recomend either "american beast" or "disrepair."
probably should have waited another day but i thought noone else was goin to reply so i just went to the record store il still think about checking back on other sugestions for another tripOriginally Posted by aXa
i would have recommended arab strap Elephant foot.
anyway..
Hahahaha....keep living in that fantasy if you want.Originally Posted by Azekiel
Like it was said above...nearly ALL Euro bands and most entire genre's have had their roots in the american music scene. Even in recording music itself or are you forgetting where the first 8 track recording started? Europe was in the dark ages for a good long time while places like Atlantic Records were pioneering music recording a good decade before acts like the Beatles even hit.
The Beatles were so heavily influenced by American Rythm & Blues (along with every other band of the british invasion) that it can easily be said that the European music scene has been lagging from the start.
Hell to brutally honest it's been lagging since the Jazz age.
Does any of it matter? Not really...but don't be foolish enough to think the American Music scene lags behind Europe...Rap alone proves you wrong...as does Jazz...Rock N Roll...hell even Pop in general.
Or is it some grand shock that so many Euro bands try to sound like their American influences?
'Influence' counts for sweet FA, it's what you DO with it that matters. i could talk about Gosbel being a combination of Gregorian plain chant and african tribal rythms, about the influence of music-hall in the twenties, Rap's roots in... etc. My cousin did his doctorate on The Influences of African tribal music, or somesuch, so i have all the neccesary rants onhand should they be called for.
Of course it's not a simple as 'My Record Industry is better than Yours!' it's pretty hard to tell them apart these days anyway. US and European music has been feeding off and into each other for a century and both have profited by the arrangement. the reason you think there's nothing interesting coming out of europe is because all you get is the watered down, saccarine sweet shit they pump out for the masses (and freaky fat kids lip-synching tacky Ukranian pop). if you actually took the time to LISTEN to some of it you might change your mind.
Heavy metal started in Europe, and bands from that genre are a hell of a lot better if they're from Europe.
arguing the merits of european music over american music or vice-versa is pointless. I don't like German metal, but I also don't like West Coast rap....that American Idol shit is revolting but the Eurovision has been the centerpiece for terrible european pop music for far far longer.
All I'll do is quote Homer Simpson -
"our beatles are much better then your rolling stones"
led zepplin was from europe? actually the first song to be credited as heavy metal according to the pop culture mythology is steppenwolf's "born to be wild" as the lyrics contain the first mention of the phrase " heavy metal" in rock music.
Yes Led Zepplin was from Europe, duh.
getting a bit out of topic aint we
back on topic: GoulTown is pretty cool, think texan-hillbilly-ghost,playin' rock music, with heavy influnce on all things dead, haha hence:GoulTown, i quess......
