I do! We rarely use it though. We're on the same cell phone plan (thousands of minutes a month) and get free calling to each other, and we also pay for the office line. I guess it is stupid to pay more for the home phone.
I thought we were doing it for our internet, but we have cable, not dsl.
You know, we should cancel the phone.
i dont, but i need one, just for local stuff, because i have a limited amount of minutes. Plus i have access to a private dialup internet thing, that id like to use in when my cable internet goes out, (which happens somewhat frequently.)
My roommate works for Comcast, so we get their cable phone service for $15 a month. It's a LOT cheaper than cell-phones and seriously, if somebody needs to get a hold of us that badly, they can wait.Originally Posted by Mirren
well, i have dial up. so you know. (thats the best we can get where i'm at)
but yeah, we do at my home
yeah got one of those
I had one when i lived in LA just because the pizza guys didn't like to take cell phones out there and because hte intercom at the front door was attatched to it. but really, no, not at all. just a cell phone and cable.

i use vonage..so technically..nope.
although if my net ever went down, id have no phone.
my mom does. and until I cna get a cmoputer out there and then save up to get a new cellphone, thats gonna be it for me.
We use to have one and about once every six months the phone company turns it back on for a day or two. No idea why but they do.
yeah, I still have a land line.......though I don't know why
I think technically I do, as the DSL could have a phone shoved into it - but I haven't had one in at least two years. Cell, Skype and email are all I ever need. On a similar thought, my printer ink ran out last year and I've never needed it since.. even though 50% of 'work' is offline if people are 5 timezones away having a phone is seriously annoying - now they have to email or voicemail me and wait for my sorry ass to crawl out of bed at noon.. then they do the same to me. Mutual lethargy using the power of a billion computers. mmm.

Nobody I regularly IM really seems interested in trying out Skype. My best friend has used it, but she doesn't have and Internet connection right now. She will soon, though, since the entire city of Ann Arbor is getting free wireless Internet connection soon, at least on a test run.Originally Posted by Mindgames

i've had a cell phone since i was 15. my roommate and i tried having a phoneline thru cox cable a while back to save our cell phone minutes... the only calls we ever got were bill collectors for musafar akbar. or something like that. we turned it off after about a month.

Yep... $8 a month, unlimited LD,
toll free incoming... it's why my
$600 celli is sitting in a box and
Nextel can bite me.
We have DSL here, so we kinda have to have a landline
I have broad band here as well plus if that's important just leave a damn messege

didnt know you needed a landline to have dsl...
well... heh i guess not actually reading hempknights thread, but i guess thats why when shitty telus went down we had no phones OR internet for like 3 weeks straight... MORE THAN ONCE!!!
it was really lame. we lived off my dads cell phone and when he was at work... what if someone like fell down the stairs and broke their fuckin leg or something and couldnt call 911? theyd be fucked.
and telus wouldnt credit my dads cell phone bill for it either. lame.
well, you have to have something to run your ADSL through. the ISP gave us a bunch of those frequency splitters so we can do ADSL and voice through our landline. freakadelic! voicewaves travelling alongside TCP/IP packets. i tell you, Edison and Tesla would *shit* *their* *pants*.
I usually find after about a week, someone with a phone calls to complain about the smell.Originally Posted by mmmcherry
Seriously though, if you use online telephony it's just as hard or easy to crawl to a laptop as it is to crawl to a phone. If my mains power fails I've got 3 hours on UPS before I have to wander into the garage and start the generator. If sunspots take out all the world's electricity then I kinda assume 911 isn't gonna pick up.

sure do ,,have had the same number ,here in ths house for over 40 yrs ,
cant live with out it
heh yeah... but this was at a time when telus was so fucked up that our phones AND internet were down.Originally Posted by Mindgames

We do have a landline, but like most people, we rarely use it. Since we get inclusive minutes and texts every month for our mobiles, we only keep the landline because it costs us nothing, with it being included in our cable package.
Here's something to think about. Does anyone know what the difference is between a "cell phone" and a "mobile phone"? I know, Im just wondering if anyone else does.
I have one also but i rarely use it. It is connected to a faxmachine and dsl and a phone that gets more incoming than out going calls.
I have become one of those who normally just uses email. Even my cell phone gets limited use.
