interview with the vampire i liked cause its true to the book, erm..sid and nancy is good....romeo and juliet, nosferatu, virgin suicides...
anime = blood:the last vampire is very good, or the classic Akira..
Hmmmm....
Donnie Darko is cool.
I like almost all of David Lynch's movies. Lost Highway, Mullholland Drive, etc...
Gummo is indeed cool. Better than Kidz, because it is more bizzare/funny.
Napoleon Dynamite is incredibly fucking funny.
City of Lost Children is pretty cool visually.
John Woo's "The Killer" is cool for the gunfights. The rest sucks.
Interview with the Vampire is cool to watch sometimes.
Thin Red Line is cool for a war movie. Very poetic. Interesting movie.
Amelie.
Seven.
I like Requiem For A Dream, but I do not know if I would watch it over and over.
I did not like Ichi the Killer as much as some other people did.
It had some cool characters, and some cool visuals, but I did not think
it had the best story. It was ok. Glad I saw it, but I wouldn't own it...
Has anyone else seen "This is Spinal Tap"? It's the greatest mockumentary ever, I think...
Spinal tap has so many layers of humor.
Unless you get the subtle humor, it is not as funny.
But if you get some of the hidden jokes, it is really great.
Example: There is one scene where they are all talking about something.
There is a groupie with the bassist. She has a sore on her mouth.
Then, later in the movie, you see that the bassist has some sores
on his mouth. Then, even later, they all have them. But it is never
really mentioned. The joke is just there for you, if you notice it...
Oh I forgot one...
Office Space.
Movies I like
The Basketball Diaries
The World According to Garp
Pecker
The Salton Sea
Imitation of Life
Rebel without a cause
Seven
The Usual Suspects
Permanent Midnight
That's all I can think of at the moment.
"Spun" is pretty damn funny...
If you like funny tweaker movies...
actually the title of is just 'Hope And Glory' abt WWII-- by John BormannOriginally Posted by CPRB

And Robin Hood: Men in tights. Two funny movies I like and they came in mind immediately.
Chuck & Buck
Bleeder
Bunman:The Untold Story
Last Exit To Brooklyn
Carne
Seul Contre Tous
Irreversible
There have been some excellent mexican/spanish movies released in the last few years:
Amores Perros
Y tu mamá también
Nicotina
Hable con ella
El crimen del Padre Amaro
I like classics more than anything:
Network (1976)
Sunset Boulevard (1950)
The Graduate (1967)
Shock Corridor (1963)
Night of the Hunter (1955)
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
Yojimbo (1961)
The Omen (1976)
Carrie (1976)
Chinatown (1974)
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966?)
and more recently:
City of God
The Devil's Advocate
Unforgiven
The Chocolate War
Heat
Go
SLC Punk
mrs jones:I liked Amores Perros a lot better than 21 grams. What about you?If you have see it.
haven't yet seen 21 grams
also forgot to put on my list Last Temptation of Christ
Napolean Dynamite was really...really good, and i saw white oleander the other day which was good, and NOFX's 10 years of fucking up was hilareous...indeed
City of God is a really cool foreign language film.
If you don't mind the subtitles, it's pretty damn good.
Skip Hot Rod. I thought the reviewers were exaggerating because I usually love Andy Samberg's stuff. They were not exaggerating.
Just watched Sweeny Todd.... it was fantastic. the original with angela landsbury was great too
And Doom Generation & Nowhere. in fact, anything by Gregg Araki
and Children of Men... but I'm a huge clive owen fan, so I would also add Closer to that list.
I think Gregg Araki is great, although I felt Doom Generation could have stopped about 7 minutes earlier and been more awesome.Originally Posted by athenahollow

Of recent releases, No Country For Old Men was great. If you're a Cohen Bros fan (esp of Fargo), you will probably really dig this.
Other flicks I highly recommend:
- The Great Happiness Space, a great doc about male escorts in Japan
- Lollilove, a fun little mockumentary by Jenna Fischer
- Shadow Company, a doc about military contractors ("mercenaries") in Iraq
- The Devil's Rejects, one of my fav horror movies ever
- Where The Truth Lies, a pretty interesting take on suspense/mystery
- Wet Hot American Summer, a fabulous spoof on 80s summer camp movies.
- The Thing. *This* is my favorite horror movie ever. An absolute masterpiece of isolation, fear, and suspicion. Even exceeds the original Alien, imho.
The Thing and The Devils Rejects in the same list? eclectic at best!Originally Posted by funkatron
i thought The Devils Rejects was shite personally although i got a good laugh imagining rob coming up with the great idea of a slow-mo scene at the very end of the movie with lynyrd skynyrd playing.
Black Book
by Paul Verhoeven. Really fucking cool movie. It a departure from Verhoevens other films (RoboCop, Total Recal) Really, Really, Reeeaaaallllllllly fucking good.
Understandable. I think it's a "love it or hate it" film, and I'm not sure it's great from a story standpoint, but I just love the characters and the aesthetic of the film.Originally Posted by episode allah
just saw American Gangster the other day. it's pretty darn good.
Blood Diamond and The Departed. leonardo dicaprio is suddenly badass!
not really sure if it/they count as movies, but if you can check out the Masters Of Horror series. every film (1 hr each) is messed up in so many ways, and of the ones ive seen so far (the first 12) ive only not like 1. and if you can only catch one of them, make it 'Cigarette Burns.' adn in case i havent linked to HIT enough, here's the head injury theater quick review of the first MoH box set.
mb I miss'd it, but I can't believe nobody listed PI!

Death Proof.
Bullitt.
Enter the Dragon.
Shaft.
ha, deathproof is awesome, but i was really disappointed that it didnt get released as the original grindhouse idea here in ausralia. they advertised grindhouse, then it jsut disapperaed off the grids (ut not until after i was ta excited). a while later, when i had given up hope, death proof comes out (and rocks) but still no trace of planet terror
And Rebecca DeMornay is HOT!Originally Posted by Amelia G
And I don't get Penelope Cruz either.
Something Wild
Age of Innocence
Prey for Rock and Roll
Gypsy 83
Natural Born Killers
Secretary
Damage
Here are some of the less mainstream movies
that I think are pretty good, and worth checking out:
Lost Highway
Mullholland Drive
American Beauty
Gummo
Kids
Spun
Pan's Labyrinth
Donnie Darko
Whoops! I just realized this was an old thread, and I already replied to it... oh well...

There's alot of movies on here that I love: (Evil Dead Trilogy, Fear and Loathing, and a million others), But let's not forget:
Kevin Smith/Jersey Chronicals-- He writes a good flick, and Clerks 2 was probably the funniest movie I have ever seen,
The Spaghetti Westerns-- Clint Eastwood is Badass with a capitol 'B'.
The Big Lebowski, and naturally, Jaws, which I think is probably the greatest film ever made.
Oh, and Alfred Hitchcock is the man.
oh, and has anyone said chopper yet? dunno how well known it is outside australia... that and the castle. "tell him hes dreaming!"
