If America was attacked by a giant monster it would quietly leave having been sold 50 bucks worth of tourist junk it feels slightly ashamed to declare at Customs, and still not quite understanding the concept of "gravy".
The Japanese invent cool shit (and I have a lot of it) because they've got to. I mean - you're on an island about to be obliterated by a tsunami any moment, you have the highest life expectancy on the planet and one of the highest standards of living, and you can't even amuse yourself by sending your armed forces off to blow crap out of a minor dictatorship. The only options left are suicide and invention - which strangely the Japanese both excel at.

Good luck to you - New shinken start at around $4000 and I've seen some at over $50,000 - the general rule is you need to spend at least a million yen for top quality - but your biggest problem is getting the export license to remove the sword from Japan, and the import license to bring it into the US. Both countries class shinken as armaments - it's only the 'fake' versions from outside Japan that you'll find in general sale. I vaguely bent the system because I was working out there, but it still took a month to get the paperwork.Originally Posted by KilLAtomiK

A buddy of mine has a really really awesome vintage Japanese sword. His father shot someone in the Pacific Theater.
Something along the lines of getting the drop on a Japanese officer in Iwo Jima or somewhere like that and telling him to drop his weapons, including the sword. The officer refused to drop the sword, so my friend's dad closed his medical record with a bullet through each eye. He kept the sword.
Turns out it's several hundred years old. Eel skin on the handle, incredibly ornate object. The Japanese government would like it back. His father told them to fuck right off.
I'll admit that I have way too much weird Japan import stuff. some of my favorite clothing cam from there.
Actually, I have seen real ones for sale at the Georgia Rennesaince Festival, and yes, they can get pretty damned expensive, though they had some lower quality ones that was a little cheaper.Originally Posted by Mindgames

cool keyboard, I wonder if any of my Japanese Goth friends have it, I'll have to ask them. The best thing here are the Love Hotels, always end up using them as a photo studio for my photo shoots.
