    Reaganomics.
good old ronnie takes a shit on the economy and drives unemployment rates soaring to an all time high since the Great Depression, to which they STILL have never recovered to what they were before then...
and he's praised as a Great American Hero by the nation.
    that's pretty fuckin silly.

Yeah, I never understand the thing where people slag a decade. I feel like it is shortsighted because what you are thinking is cool today will most likely seem quite dated and perhaps silly at some point in the future. I don't think we should feel humiliated by the past. Well, we should if we did something shame-worthy, but I don't think wearing spandex falls into that category. I looked fucking hot in spandex.

didn't mean to diss all about the 80s. just remembered the extreme fashion stuff (and you have to admit that some of the stuff was really funny even back then). a lot of music i like is heavily influenced by some 80's bands. i guess i was too young to be a part of any fashion, so most of the stuff i remember is like based on checking my photo albums from time to time. so i dug out an old kindergarden photo, where i had a synth in my hands (what else? LOL. )... i was wearing this orange shirt with blue/green feathers printed randomly around it, and a black vest on top of that...

The thing I liked about 80's stuff vs. the present is that there is the notion now that caring is funny and embarrassing, that trying is funny and embarrassing, that aspiration is funny and embarrassing. Some of the 80's stuff is cartoonish, but I think that might be the price of involvement and effort. Yeah, I know, probably more philosophy than you were really looking for in this thread. Just something which has been on my mind.

I call dibs on the G.I.Joes !! bust em out, I'll add 'em to my collection.

The big thing I recall the most from the silly 80's would have to be "The Muppet Explosion". Henson's Creature Shop creations turned up everywhere from movies, t.v. and that new "cable" thingy.

Not a complaint in any way... I LOVE MUPPETS !!

I misread this at first to say that you almost bought a size-changing Pee Wee doll. Rather different connotations...

in high school our word of the day was "horrendous"... our band director would say it just to hear us all go "ahhhhhhh!" lol

i used to wear all the dumb 80's fashions, cause hey, i was a kid and it was cool... back then, anyway

In reference to spandex shorts, I remember going to the gym and watching the sweet looking asses , but then going out and seeing the old overlarge women wearing them too(shuddeers) GI JOE was ok, but Transformers rocked, and still do today, esp if Ya have the originals and can sell em on Ebay, parachute pants and matching jacaket, gimme a break, every michael jackson wannabe wore them, and look at Him now.....cool pic of KISS, but ya gotta remember, it was the decade of the chicken suit, and then no makeup at all, and only Gene and Paul stayed with the band all the way.

...but yeah, I agree, the economy in the 1980s was the goofiest shite imaginable. That and thanks to Reagonimics, nobody trusts Socialism these days. When I was fifteen, I busted my hip in Hong Kong, which is Socialist (at least under British rule, which it was at the time -- I believe it still is, mostly just to prevent a revolt, i.e., another Tiananmen Square). I was there because my eldest sister (my father's step-daughter) shared joint custody with my father and she legally has some sort of three-way citizenship -- she was born in the States, her husband born in HK and both she and him are naturalised citizens of the UK at that point. So, I broke my hip in a Vespa accident and, even as a visitor, I wasn't waiting in the Emergency Room for "days" or even "hours".

Socialism works -- ask pre-handover Hong Kong, the Scandanavian nations, Canada..... It's too bad that Americans are too pig-headed to acknowledge this.

haha spandex is still nice for working out. I'm tone and well-endowed. Why not? I think the tolerance one might find towards the gothic folks may have had its origins in defiling the christian coalition (and Tipper fuck'n Gore) during the 80s.

Ahh the 80's.. i remember the following

    Warrant's Cherry pie Video
Kids scrambling to get the Legend of Zelda 2 gold cartridge
The birth of Parental Advisory Labels
The fall of the Berlin Wall
    Shitty Olympics
Prince as Batman/Joker in his video
    The Powerglove
    Boomboxes with TWO! cassette players
    The cartoon the GummyBears

You know you were a product of the 80's when :
You ever owned a thin, black leather tie (and were proud of it), or worse it was patterned like a piano.

And lots more.. by the way.. heres a fact.. On this day (july 31st) Mtv debuted in 1981 at 12 o clock.

Heres something i really remember though..

Actually, the Cherry Pie album wasn't released until 1991 -- and Charles Atlas pre-dates the 1980s by a few decades.

Remember those purses that had wooden handles that you could change the covers on with buttons? Those were the yuppiest things that I could remember about the 80's (I had 8..i admit). Those and those damn members only jackets (member of WHAT?) and Izod shirts and Jordache jeans. And the "I can't seem to forget you...that stinky "Windsong" stays on my mind".
The music, the music is what I love. I keep singing "Words" by Missing Person's that is permenantly stuck in my head from watching that tv show...whats the name of it? "Hit me baby one more time"? I must admit, I am addicted to it.
But the 80's in general? Eh. I miss them because I was younger, but looking back, it's cheese.
