Yeah, he was really popular at one time, more in America than England probably. They use his song Rock and Roll Part II at a lot of sports events, has also been done in marching band style, it isn't pretty.

He is considered one of the originators of the sound and was the original performer of some pretty big songs. I really LOVE Joan Jett's cover of "Do you wanna touch me" You have probably heard a multitude of covers of Gary Glitter's "I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock and Roll)" If you have ever watched a sports event, you have probably heard a Gary Glitter song. He actually did time for possession of kiddie porn, however. He fled to Cambodia after his release, but the Cambodian government later deported him. Hey, they know they are a hotbed of child abuse, but they draw the line at silver jumpsuits.
