Georgians are Weird

So, since ive lived in GA for almost 3 years now, this would be the first time "snow" has hit..although i wouldnt really say its snow like Chicago snow..where i used to live, but it's melting as it hits the ground..so not really snow..sleet-ish if you will.

So whats the problem?

Georgians apparently think its the end of the world. All over the news there are stories of people stocking up at the stores, as if the apocalypse is coming. All schools are closed tommorrow, the news ticker is saying all restraunts are closing and all church events are closed. So because theres a few flakes that look like instant mashed potatoes falling from the sky, GA is a bunch of weirdos and close everything.

Anybody else have weird town stories because of the weather change their not used to?

Heh. I'm 2 hours from you. It snowed for the first time in like a decade last year and my University closed, even though it was like an inch of snow on the ground and it stopped snowing.
It's snowing now, and security told me the campus is closed because of it; though, like over in your Atlanta, there's nothing on the ground, so I'm keeping the lab open.

I've heard theories...the best of which was "OMG, what is this shit? Let's freakout!"
But the most logical one I've heard is they have to close the mountains due to icy roads, so people can get stuck up there, but that lasted for only a matter of hours.

However, Atlanta...I don't think you guys have an excuse.

I was born and raised in atlanta and am currently residing in New Mexico so I know where you're coming from. The first time I saw a serious snow was when the blizzard hit in 93 or 94 (I dont remember exactly) and that was the last time snow ever stayed around long enough for it not to be turned into slushy. The horrible thing down there is sleet, where the rain just turns into shards of ice falling from the heavens. I got stuck driving in that shit and the fog being so bad that you can only see 5 ft in front of you I definitely dont miss that. It doesnt snow out here either, but last year we got about 3 feet and we made a giant shroom *_*

LOL yes. I'm currently in North Carolina (spent my teen years in Vermont) so the Southerner's freeking out about just a tinge of snow is a panic-sort of hilarity I get to watch once a year. School canceled, People calling out of work... All the more funny considering most people have four wheel drive. ^_^

that sounds like ppl in so cal when it rains. any one who's been in fla for what we call an afternoon shower knows that the sprinkles they get in LA don't hold a candle and yet ppl there stop under overpasses with hazard lights on. heh, whats even funnier is when ppl from places like Colorado come down to FL in the summer and we get one of our 20 min afternoon thunderstorms. my grandmother was convinced it was a hurricane and we were out playing in it. I thought she was gonna have a heart attack.

i want to say it's chicken little syndrome "the sky is falling! freak out! the world is ending!"
