    Default Moving

For some really fucked up reason we've decided to move back to Florida for a year before moving to Europe. We're looking at being in the swamp by Christmas. What ever posessed us? Does this sound like a good idea to you? What about my southern breathren, what's your take on this insanity?

We have family on the eastern coast of Fla, that's why there. Besides property values are way down now, could get a good house dirt cheap. (How do I know it's a good house? It's still standing!)
We haven't decided where in Europe will be our final destination. Preferrably someplace where German is a common language, my swedish blows. Rob's looking at Norway (gods only knows why).
But it's not just me that thinks this whole idea is nutz?

Nutz is putting it kindly...if Europe is the final destination why spend time and money in Florida? Pick a place across the pond and spend the money, time, and effort there.

Well if you could live near the swamp with aligators and all that, that could be cool, spooky!!!

But moving somewhere before moving to where you really want to go, h-m-m-m-m.

I think you are really answering your own question. If you think it is crazy, maybe it really is. Moving is very stressful, expensive and difficult, not to mention traumatic.

I always end up crying and drinking wine. But wait, I do that anyway...

in the end would you be saving money in doing it? would the money you are spending for the house (plus the gamble of selling it within the time frame of you moving) be better then staying where you are or even renting some little cramped money saving type place for a year... nothing helps you clear out unnecessary baggageyou dont need to take overseas like a tiny 1bedroom apartment for two people...

    well darlings it's like this....
California is NOT a place to save up the kind of money it's going to take to move to Europe. Cost of living in Fla is MUCH lower than in LA. If I were to move back to Fla I could live in roughly the same apartment for $1000 less than what I'm paying here. I have a job there where I can pull in nearly $800 a week three weeks out of the month would more than likely go into savings giving us a pretty nest egg to move 'cross the pond. Not to mention comming back out to LA for a few weeks at a time to make the kind of money I can make here in Film.
And I've always lived in a one bedroom apt. I still have more crap than I need. The bedroom consistantly becomes a spare room and we sleep on the futon in the living room. Nothing quite pares down your junk hoard like moving into your mom's spare room in her apartment for a month. Anyway, most of our bulky stuff, like VHS tapes and collectible action figures, will end up in a cheap storage space in Fla till we have someplace in Europe to have it sent to. That's theother reason we're taking all our crap back to Fla, we have some one there to put it in storage and ship it when we have room for it else where, same as we did when we moved to CA. See it's actually rather sound, excpet for the part about leaving here and moving to the swamp...

Well, hopefully you aren't seriously moving out in the swamp. o_O I've always been rather spooked by alligators, not to mention all the freaking mosquitos..... And hopefully you aren't too close by the beach. There probably isn't anything there standing, anyway. Do what you have to do, go to FL and save your money if that is going to profit you more in the future. It's still going to suck, though.

Tell me about it sucking the sixteen years before I moved to Cali I lived in Fla. I've lived in Kissimmee, St.Cloud (right there next to YeeHaw Junction and HoloPaw) and Satellite Beach (think redneck beach bums). There are somehtings on the beach still standing, like my mom's house, and Rob's mom's insurance company moved her into a new building. It's just the $20 mill mansions ON the beach that look like condemmed movie sets, according to my mom.

Well things in the Swamps have deteriorated to the point where I have to leave next Wednesday. The moving van will be here Thursday. It's official, I'm moving. Next Tuesday (the ninth) will be my "farewell" at Porn Star Karaoke at Sardo's in Burbank. We'll be comming back in like six weeks for a like two weeks and hopefully that will be the pattern for the future.

Im from Florida. Its sooo boring, I wouldnt move back there for anything. Im leaving for Germany in 5 1/2 weeks, to stay with my boyfriend during the winter. Im scared of just the thought of moving to a non-english speaking country. Ive been trying to learn German, but have not put much effort into it. Norwegian however is 100x harder to learn than German.

Well, I have roughly 24 hrs before the truck gets here. For some reason I'm really depressed. I get the feeling that I'm going to cry at the party next week...

Not surprised you are depressed...any time you spend a lot ot time in one place it does become home...even if we don't readily admit it.

You're heading on a new path now...new memories to make and new adventures to have.

Actually more like retreading an old path.

I'm taking a briefe break from the pack and move rhythym of the boxes dance. Tripped over a cat with my hands full of box and almost broke my hand falling against a wall.
    I hate moving

If you're going to Florida, watch out for Chiggers. (An EVIL Bug that delights in burrowing into human skin to eat and spawn. Usually in your feet/Legs)

things like that are Basicly the reason why I don't ever go to Florida. (except when I'm passing through on the way to the Caymans.)

Chiggers live in spanish moss, and since I have no intention of climbing trees in the actual swamps, I'll be fine :p The things i'm not looking forward to is the silverfish , all 9000 breeds of cockroach, palmetto bugs, stink bugs, love bugs, 7 million breeds of mold that i'm deathly allergic to, everyhting blooming, rain and most of all, humidity...

eh, we get that in SoCal too, it's just filtered through the smog. It's actually less sunny there than it is here, since overcast and rainy days are few and far between. Gotta love that high desert climate..

This has never happned before. The movers told us that they would be there between 2pm and 4 pm. I was expecting the 4:30 time slot. When do they show up? 1:15! I had just put the last load of laundry in th edryer, the dishes that were going to be packed had just gone into the dishwasher and these guys show up and just start hauling my stuff out to the truck. and hr later they're done and gone. couldn't wait 10 min more for the dishwasher and dryer to be done so I could pack the last two boxes. Now I have to figure out how to get these last two large boxes the stuff that I'm going to need for the last week in LA and and the week worth of travel, two cats and two people into a 2003 toyota corrolla comfortably. oh yeah, and the computer...
