Default So, What exactly is the Techno-Goth type Genre?

Recently, that term has been bandied about lately. What exactly is it?

I am thinking: Dark, Futuristic type stuff?

Maybe one of the best examples of this kind of music could be Hocico and Cenobita... and of course many more.
It's something like Techno, or maybe Trance, but not that monoton as typical (commercial)Trance or Techno, it's darker, harder, mysteriouse, could also say futuristic sometimes.

Do you mean the story setting, or music?

I mean the music... and that typical Techno is somekind of cold... no emotions, nothing... and "Techno" Goth music expresses that darkness, sometimes creep and of course includes some great vocals, which we hardly find in ussual Techno.

A few terms would be ebm, electro, futurepop.

I would suggest the metropolis label.

That's what I thought when I read an interview with The Vampire Beach Babes, where they stated they don't make psychobilly, they make gothabilly

I remember when it was: top 40,rock, hard rock, soft rock, heavy metal, classical and country. I dunno what the fuck happened. If I like it, I listen to it, fuck all these labels.

It's for people who're like "Hey, I like goth rock" - "Haha, you suck. Emo rock is way better". And yes, I've heard people saying stuff like that.

It seems strange to me that goth is rock at all. It seems to me that it was originally classical music. But, hey if people want to run around in little gangs based on music and tell me what's what, I'm up for the free entertainment.

Oh HELL no...that'd actually be worse...STEALING bands from other genre's to put into some new lamer one...that's just awful on all levels. Plus each has been around for a LONG time now and predate these new crappy labels. Alec Empire alone has stated many times he does "Digital Hardcore"...hell the named the label that after all to hammer the point home. ATR began pretty simple since they used techno, industrial, and "tips" from KMFDM like "When in doubt pretend to talk about some sort of social message." and "Never be afraid of hypocrisy, embrace it when needed." ATR's early work that hit the retail was pretty slick and not all that amazing. I loved it personally but it was nothing stand out at the time. Once Alec got bored though the live and recorded work began to mesh closer together...as seen in their 60 Second Wipeout album...that was much truer to what they had usually been playing live. Never grabbed me as being goth...at all. Alec's "solo" work has a massive range too that mixes everything from more melodic and slow works to hard, fast, and nearly undesipherable albums. Again...amazing stuff but it never grabbed me as goth. It's "Dark" but hell if that's the pre-requisite for goth music then COUNTRY is as goth as it gets...cause song for song NO genre is more depressing...(yes even more than emo)...and more violent.(tons of songs about murder for example).

Not so much Techno more of a hard trance. Lables and crap are so difficult. I say: if you think you can define it, you're so far off you might as well be on the moon.

Well, Alec Empire descended from ATR, after they broke up, but Hanin Elias is still playing the old style (cept of a few songs on her recent album), but if I had told her she was playing techno goth, she'd have probably killed me in the moshpit
I don't think you can actually define a genre for ATR, because, as Hanin once said in an interview, it's just a valve to let out all of their anger.

Other way around my friend. Alec Empire was more of a Producer/ solo artist...ATR was formed as more of a side project/ way to play with "friends" as it where. ATR was never his sole focus, same with all the members really. Even in live shows you could see this since a lot of Alec's own tastes and experiments made their way on stage. His solo work was and remains miles ahead of his ATR stuff. Hanin while interesting never really seems to push things to the next level as it where...but then I'm probably being unfair since I'm comparing her too closely to other artists in her position (like former LOA member Jade 4 U/Darling Nikkie/ 100's of other names.)

As far as the techno goth comment...hell if you'd of said that at a live show ANYONE would have killed you...

Probably true, yet I knew ATR long before Alec Empire, and actually, I don't like his solo music at all. As for Hanin, I don't think she should change too much, I really adore the aggressiveness in the music.
The masses were climaxing, when she started playing In Flames on her last concert. me too
