Default Tennessee "Crack Tax" brings in nearly $2 million in first year

    from nbc

During its first year, Tennessee's "Crack Tax" has brought in nearly $2 million dollars in state revenue.

The illegal substances tax went into effect last January.

Basically, drug dealers are supposed to pay taxes on illegal drugs and alcohol.

They pay confidentially, and when they do, they get a stamp.

If they're caught without the stamp, they'll be prosecuted for not only selling drugs, but for not paying their taxes too.

All money made from the stamps goes to fighting drugs.

Do you really think nobody deals, distributes, or traffics in significant quantities of crack, smack, and/or weed in Tennessee?

Seems like an interesting idea...I wonder how successful it actually will be in the long run. I remember seeing something on the history channel about boot legging. It still goes on cuz people don't want to pay taxes...I image after awhile people would just stop? Or the ATF would just be...TF...

Wow, I live in TN. I never thought anyone would buy the tax stamps for illeagal drugs! It's basically a trap, if you buy the stamp its as good as an admission of guilt. If you don't and get busted you get fined and can add tax evasion to your list of charges. I guess the fat cats finally got wise to the fact our #1 cash crop is marijuana. I don't know why they don't just fucking leagalize it. If they did, the quality would go to shit, so I hope they don't in a way. What are they going to do next? *sigh*
