What's your least favorite compliment in the WORLD!? You know, those thing people say that just make you grind your teeth and bite your tongue....

I hate this one- you're too pretty to be gothic. Now what the F&#%*(%&@ does that mean!??? Like I am wasting my life merely because of how I choose to look on the outside? I wonder what advantage I would have if I decided to look normal. Then perhaps normal folks could say 'why you are a delightful looking lady' and I could be oh so happy. So happy, in fact, I probably wouldn't have sleeping problems anymore, and definitely not struggle with depression. Perhaps these are the rewards I would reap if only I could accept that I am too pretty to be gothic :-)

Have any of you guys heard that one before, or something similar? Perhaps 'you're too smart to____________' or 'you come from too good of a family to ___________". Such fill in the blank ""compliments"" such as these are insults in disguise!

So I guess that's my answer to, er, my own question.

I hate compliments that are really insults disguised as compliments!

My favorite is "Wow, that's really good for you..." or "that's an interesting haircut..."

I think the best way to deal with that shit is to throw it back in their face with something like "I normally don't like baby-boomers, but your okay..." or "That shirt helps make you look a lot thinner..."

There is one that girls love to drop on single guys, especially girls who are unavailable or uninterested in the guy.

"You'd be a really great guy for some girl."

If you are not that girl (or guy or whatever) don't offer this compliment to a guy. It really is just a kick in the junk. It may seem like a compliment, but if you are not interested in the guy it comes out a bit like, "some girl out there must have worse taste in men than me!"

I assume this would be true if a guy did it to a girl, a girl to a girl or a guy to a guy as well.

What annoys me is when people ask "You've been married for soooo long now, when are you having kids?" Like I need kids in my life!!!
I have great pleasure in telling them that we can't have them (Wife has an implant, I've had the snip and we use protection) People always seem to shut up sharpish when you say that, as if they've just realised they've offended you!

I get a lot of compliments on the tattoos which are annoying, often with the person lifting up my shirt or grabbing my arms to tell me I have mutilated my beautiful body. Uh, I didn't ask what you think & what makes you think you can go touching me, lifting up my clothes and moving me around without asking? Seriously rude.

However, once in high school a friend of mine & I were at an event & were swearing like truckers at everything. This guy was with his kids & tried to make us stop. He wouldn't really address me at all but my friend was a gorgeous blond girl, he kept telling her she was such a pretty girl & shouldn't talk like "that." Apparently I could have as I wasn't pretty. He kept repeating it until he just got up & left. Don't try to be bossy & hiding it with stupid compliments.

Heehee. There are the RARE times when that is a compliment. Most of the time, it really isn't.
