A friend of mine swears by lines like those... the cheesier, the better. He claims the trick is to use it as an ice-breaker instead of an actual pick-up. I can't say I've seen it work for him too often though.

I actually never used pick up lines when I was single (course I also didnt date alot.....hmmmm....). I'd have one in mind and approach the female in question, then feel real damn stupid, turn around and go away. The few times I did date, I usually just went with honesty. A simple " I think youre really funny/smart/attractive/etc..., I'd really like to take you to dinner/a movie/etc. usually worked out better for me. I just couldn't bring myself to do the whole "Didn't that hurt when you fell out of the sky?" thing.

killerkat -- there was a womanizer of some renown in the Washington, DC scene many moons ago who liked boots. He went up to a girl and said "nice boots, wanna fuck?" and it worked. We made reference to the line in BLT. Various folks picked it up from BLT and it spread from there. I think the initial concept was a combo of "we share a fetish so maybe we would enjoy a roll in the hay" and "I don't even have to try to get laid"

not sure on the final source but the radio quoted some big long research study stating the number one most succesful pickup line is "I can see you and me still laughing together a year from now" (or something along those lines) citing laughing implied pleasantness, and a year from now implying seriousness and looking for more then a one night stand
