The word evil has lost its meaning to the point that it is rightfully mocked. I partake in the mocking yet know it does not bode well for humanity. True evil is anything that keeps us in shackles whilst convincing us we are free.

the human mind can come up with anything and everything these days could be considered evil.
True evil has convinced nearly the entire race that it does not exsist anymore.

I can think of few things more evil than illusory freedom.

if by evil you mean something with a negative outcome i'm with you. But not if, as the word suggests, you are talking about evil as some objective reality

    adj. e·vil·er, e·vil·est
    1. Morally bad or wrong; wicked: an evil tyrant.
    2. Causing ruin, injury, or pain; harmful: the evil effects of a poor diet.
    3. Characterized by or indicating future misfortune; ominous: evil omens.
    4. Bad or blameworthy by report; infamous: an evil reputation.
    5. Characterized by anger or spite; malicious: an evil temper.
    n.
    1. The quality of being morally bad or wrong; wickedness.
    2. That which causes harm, misfortune, or destruction: a leader's power to do both good and evil.
    3. An evil force, power, or personification.
    4. Something that is a cause or source of suffering, injury, or destruction: the social evils of poverty and injustice.
I'm looking at in terms of a noun (definitions 1 and 2) The way the term is used nowadays is and should be mocked.

i think it is regressive to believe that the word can qualitatively be used as noun 1.

I sincerly believe that the world would be a better place if such abstractions were considered as such.

I'd see it more as the second definition.

Einstein defined evil as the term we use to describe what happens when good is absent. He postulated that evil really doesn't exist in it's own right, but only exists as the absence of good. But if I think about it, Can there be good without evil? It would be something like a one-sided coin, wouldn't it.

The analogy used was that of light and dark. Darkness of it's own really is nothing, but a description of what we see when there is no light. So, when we turn on the light, the darkness vanishes.

describing things by talking about their opposites is merely circular. I would have thought that einstein was too clever for that.

The analogy with light and darkness is ridiculous.

i dont think we will ever know if humans are evil or not unless someone was raised in a pure environment without being affected by the media or the out side world. im not sure if i can describe what evil is but i know is that it has been created by humans

if it has been created by humans than how can we tell if it really exists?

Evil is pretty easy to define. Think of something you would never want someone to do to you. Now go do it to someone else knowing how much you don't want it done to you. You just crossed the line into evil.
