Default Giving up something for Lent?

If you were going to give up a personal indulgence for a period of reflection, such as Lent, what would you give up for a few weeks?

Reflection itself. I'd like to spend a while just doing everything that occured to me; no planning, no researching, no hesitating, no putting it back indefinitely waiting for 'the right time'.

Giving up doing stuff in favor of thinking about it wouldn't make me any wiser. Thinking's my vice as it is.

I'm giving up that Raza only uses 9% unnecessary adjectives. I think the percentage is higher.

As for basically being a former Roman "Catholic", I think lent is really a primitive, ridiculous idea in the same way the whole "no meat" on Fridays thing is. Fasting...Giving up shit..No meat...Why? If there really is a God, why do I have to prove my love for him? If he is all knowing, wouldn't he already know I love him, care for his teachings, and see him as my true saviour without me having to prove it? The real reason I don't consider myself "Catholic" anymore, isn't because I don't believe there is no entity out there. I mean, why not? To say we know everything about everything and there is no God OR Gods is as close-minded as strict religions are. I read somewhere (And I think it's in the bible) that the BEST Christian...The truest Christian... is one who gives up all his worldly things for those less fortunate. Well...If this is the truest Christian, than to me my God would have to be the most humble entity that you could ever meet. Not a god that's always looking for praise...Or giving up things to prove your love. A god that truly is in the most truest sense....Pure. If you truly love him, he knows. And if you don't...He understands. Make any sense?

And as for giving up anything for personal reflection....Giving up something for just personal reflection? Why would you need to give up anything?

true, and if god really was pissed off about you doing those things, why would he be happy that you gave them up for a month, once a year, and still continued to do them the rest of the time?

I was going to go with 'Mostly Unnecessary Adjectives' a la Olix's comment, but the length limit on custom user titles restricted me to two characters for the first word. I went as high as I could.

Giving up something for lent doesn't necessarily mean you have to be giving up something God would be pissed at you doing. It's giving up something you enjoy, to show how much love you have for him. If you love chocolate, it could be simply not having any for 40 days. That's why I think it's stupid. If God is all knowing, there would be no reason that you have to prove any love for him by giving up shit. He should know right off the bat, how much you dig the big man. Proof should be unnecessary and redundant.

And why would he wants you to give up something that you liked, if it wasn't a sin or forbidden? God wants you to prove you love him by being miserable? yeah, I think that i did hear that one in church just about word for word when I was a kid. God, Catholics are stupid.

Yeah...I think by defining Catholics are stupid, you're REALLY giving other organized religions too much credit. They're all pretty damn stupid and silly in my book.

I don't know, you never really hear about Buddhists doing stupid shit.

other than accepting Richard Gere as a member.

    Good memory

I have hard time remembering stuff if they aren't important or interesting.

On the other side I know so many facts and how-to-do's that will probably never get used in my lifetime.

    On the topic..... no comment

I thought it was interesting (or at least charming), but that might just be because it was about me.

Don't you have to be getting in the first place to give it up? That's like me saying that I'm giving up being a professional basketball player.

You should smear peanut butter on your genitals and buy several large birds.
