It's because of GLOBAL WARMING.
You see, an area that is normally referred to as "Death Valley" for being just at, just under, or just over 100F warming up leads to snow.

damn i'm old...
but for some reason, i do find that i feel less creepy hitting on the silly young LA club girls now that i'm 40... at 39 i always felt creepy... odd numbers always make me feel weird...

we have more snow in oregon then has been in 30 years...3.5 at my house..plus freezing rain, which really sucked lastnight on my way home. Pretty much everything is closed down.

It's gonna be 81 degrees on Christmas where I live. It fuckin sucks. I don't mind the warm weather here compared to all the cold up North but at X-Mas time, I like it to be a little chilly.

I haven't seen snow in like 2 years. Actually, it was Easter 2007. In Texas.
Still it was like what? 3 inches or so? It makes me miss home. Three of four feet overnight and school still wasn't canceled.

las vegas isn't in death valley. I don't really see the correlation there.
global warming means that the average temperature of the globe is increasing. the internal temperature of the earth has no effect on the position of it's solar orbit, which means that there is always going to be seasonal differences between the side of the earth facing toward the sun and the one that is facing away from it. Even if the earth had no atmosphere it would still be cold in the winter. it would probably be a much colder, in fact. Look at the planet Mars, the summer side is 150 degrees F and the winter side is -150 F.
since the winter side is not receiving as much direct sunlight as the summer side, it's colder- but because the average temperature of the earth is increasing, it means that there is more warm air in the atmosphere on all sides, which pushes down the cold air and makes it colder for the winter side (this also is what causes increased rains and severe weather during the summer). Extreme temperatures on both scales are a pretty standard indicator of the global climate change phenomenon.

I haven't noticed much of a change in my life.............winters have always been freaking cold with strange warm bits, and summers have always been hot with cool spells
some winters are nastier than others and some are kind of pleasant..........it's always been that way

I already said why. I don't think I can make it much clearer. the average temperature of the planet as a whole is increasing, it doesn't mean that every spot is always going to be hotter.
melting polar icecaps and receding glaciers is what sealed it for me.
Forget NASA and the global consensus of scientists, forget even the Oil companies that are now considering man's influence on climate change, look to the other die-hard skeptics who don't believe that it is human caused or related but still choose to at least be rational enough to consider the evidence and admit that yes, it is there.
You are pretty much on your own if you think that global warming isn't happening.

Although I always think that snow days are a great excuse. I don't get to have a legit reason for why I stayed home and sat around on my ass all day. It just sounds a whole lot better than, sorry, I couldn't come into work today, I'm playing Halo.

One of my mom's dogs does the exact same thing. He'll just burrow under the snow and try to tunnel through the yard. That, or he'll just try to jump up enough to get out of the snow long enough to move forward.
