    Default Do you like Pinkberry?

I don't generally eat dairy, have to take a pill to digest it when I do, but I'm going to have a Pinkberry treat this evening. Do you like Pinkberry? Do they have Pinkberry where you are?

Kinda. I believe the same Starbucks folks invested heavily in both, as memory serves.

Do I like a what now? Isn't that when you hold a fat kid down and repeatedly slap his torso?

Neither was the FDA for a while.

It's a frozen-yogurt-based thing in a tub, or at least it is now they use real yogurt.

frozen yogurt creeps me out. I'm more a sorbet or ices girl myself.

I could never see how it tasted any different than soft serve icecream. Next time someone asks me if I want some yogurt I'll ask them if it is frozen or semi-thawed (is that how you'd describe normal yogurt? perhaps partially liquid yogurt.) frozen yogurt is another way of saying solid yogurt, but that doesn't sound very appetizing does it?

I think this is the most times I've ever said yogurt, in my whole life.

I think "congealed" is a better adjective to use in those circumstances.

I always found TCBY too sweet and too warm. Pinkberry benefits, I think, from newer soft serve tech, so it is crazy cold. And they'll put actual fruit on it.

The phrase "soft serve tech" seems to add an air of machismo to a substance that really has none.

That's really interesting. Are they publicly traded? It seems like it would be possible to check those figures.

Still, an independent coffeehouse which paid its manager/owner $50k a year would probably feel like that meant the coffeehouse made a $50k profit, but Starbucks figures its profit after that.

I try to stay away from those places anyway. Mostly because I'm too lazy to learn a new language. Seriously, what the fuck is Starbuckian? Whatever happened to just ordering a fucking small, medium, or large coffee? I even partially understand expresso, capachino, and latte... partially. Anything beyond that and my mind is fried.

I just dominate them into filling my order how I placed it.

Well, it's not hard for me to dominate with, "Give me a large coffee. No, not whatever you just said. I just want a normal fucking large coffee." It's the other people's orders. Plus, those places are too expensive anyway.

Some people get really extra-attached to stuff they have to learn new words for. Knowing that that is the reason for the pressure to use new words annoys me. In general, I don't object to using appropriate jargon, unless I feel manipulated.

I spend too much on food, so I can't really whine about the price, although I'm making a lot more iced lattes at home in this economy.

Give me some cheap generic coffee beans and I'm happy enough. If you stick a spoon in it and the thing doesn't stand up on its own, it's just dirty water.

I just missed getting some Pinkberry while I was in LA. I do like frozen yogurt though since I can't eat much ice cream.

From the 2007 Starbucks Fiscal Summary:

"The Pike Place store has always been the symbolic heart of the Starbucks Experience, which more than 170,000 partners (employees) bring to life every day in over 15,000 stores and in 43 countries."

One generally assumes that over 15,000 means a bit over 15,000 i.e. like 15,234 or something, so that is probably about right. 15,000 is a lot. To put this in perspective, here is McDonald's store number for the same year:

    "Company-operated restaurants 6,906
    Franchised restaurants 20,505
    Affiliated restaurants 3,966
    Total Systemwide restaurants 31,377"

Having around half as many locations as Mickey D's is a lot.

Oh, I get it now. They're just telling you the price for the large. That fits. "I'll have a 20 dollar coffee."
