Downtown Seattle has great eating, fresh food and good coffee, but, with the exception of one nightclub with a death-defying staircase and a couple diners, most of the place (freakishly including coffee and bars) tends to roll up the sidewalks around 6:30pm. A lot of Seattle is cheaper than say Los Angeles or San Francisco, but not much cheaper and various environmental laws have a hold on future developments. On the plus side in a rocky real estate market, if you buy in Seattle, property is more likely to hold its value.
