i second that... i sometimes get a kick out of the fake gore and violence crowd knowing they haven't seen the real thing... horror/slasher flicks are one thing, but not the real thing...Originally Posted by thegreendevil76

it's odd but.... well i've always been obsessed with death...
and now that i've actually seen it (actually enforced it since i was the plug-puller) i'm even more obsessed and morbid.
all i want to watch are horror films and tragic shit.
at first, it was to make sure i could still feel. (i couldn't feel anything at all for a while aside from my grief.)
but now i just have this overwhelming morbid fascination with death and the dead, more so than before.
but i still have that lingering image of my mom's lifeless body turning waxy and yellow.... it's disturbing. it makes me sad because it was my mom....
but maybe a tiny bit of my fear is gone because... i just know she's somewhere and she's ok.
Yeah, the disturbing thing is when it is someone you know, and you see the change from a living, happy, alive person, to being just a dead body.
The actual dead body does not bother me.
It's the fact that that person is no longer "functional" anymore that is disturbing.
And obviously even worse if you have to watch them go out in some kind of unpleasant way. But even if it's totally peaceful, that change from alive to dead is not very pleasant to observe.
The first autopsy I went to was pretty surreal. It was really strange to look at the hollow chest cavity (inside of the ribs, etc) then seeing the person's face right above it. I guess it is easy to look at the gory stuff like it is an object, but then when you have something "normal" there it kinda shocks the system. For example, a guy committed suicide w/a 12 guage Remington 870 under his chin, but leaned too far forward while trying to reach the trigger. The result was that the lower part of his face was pretty much gone (along with the top of the head), but right above the bloody mess his eyes were still in place and open. It was pretty creepy to have the eyes there in that context.
