Meh, people are scum. They'll take any opportunity to place someone below themselves in the social pecking order; the fact that this is usually best achieved through ignorance, bandwagoning and generalization only reflects on the sad stack of mouldy newspapers that is ordinary humanity's imaginary high ground.

I suppose it's a coping mechanism though. For the person in question, it might really be better to hate on some distant celebrity or abstractly perceived social demographic - almost non-people, as far as perception goes - than to take a realistic look and conclude they're at the bottom of the pile themselves.
