The Worst Food Trends of 2007

We would love to say goodbye to these trends, fads, and movements, but we've been around for a while, and know these are probably here to stay. Our unanimous picks, in no particular order:

Macho Fast Food: There's no reason to consume an entire day's calories in one breakfast burrito from Hardee's.

Vanity Vodkas: The minute Donald Trump got his own vodka, the clear spirit had jumped the shark.

The Ubiquitous $40 Entree: Rising prices make great food inaccessible to the masses.

Hot Spots You Can't Find: Life is too short to dine at a "restaurant" where you have to go through an underground tunnel and then know the password, or, the owners refuse to reveal the eatery's address or phone number.

Truffles the Size of a Softball: These fancy tubers have their fans, but they're the Paris Hilton of ingredients--expensive, overexposed, and bring little to the mix.

Restaurants "In Preview:" They charge the same prices, but aren't accountable for the food because they're in "preview" mode. Restaurateurs need to own up to what they're putting out and the level of service.

Want to throw in your 12 cents? We want to hear what you think are the worst food trends.

As I cleverly saw on a poster on the wall in a homestyle diner.

"Eating American" A HUGE slice of chocolate cake, accompinied by a diet coke.

Poppy Z. Brite is full of food trendiness she can't stand --- her husband's a chef, and therefore she has the inside track on what freaking pretentiousness some people get up to in the culinary biz.

As for me, what I really wanted to see DIE in 2007 was Food Network going from Bourdain, Brown and Batali to Yum-O and that hideous woman who puts pre-made frosting on triscuits and then calls it "semi-homemade" while devoting the bulk of her attention to her white trash "tablescapes".

I dig 'No Reservations', especially the one in Japan; I will go someday
But that episode was too fkn funny! Did you notice how when he was at the little restaurant eating that scary sounding shark (again) the chef and tour guy were hovering over him! I would have smacked then screaming "back the fuck off, I'm eating bitches!" funny ass ep

Great food has always been expensive. I have no problem paying $40 bucks for a mouthgazm and don't give a shit if the masses can't get the scratch to join me.

The best Bourdain ep. was the one of him in Turkey, getting "massaged" in a Turkish bath.

There is literally a scene from there that looks like the wrestling scene from Borat - where some hairy breasted dude looking like Azamat Bagatov has bourdain in a shoulderstand with his legs over his head, and has his pelvis against Bourdain's ass, using his bodyweight to bounce-stretch Bourdain's spine.

Both men were clad only in a small, genital-covering towel.

I shouted "Bang bang bang in anoos!" at the screen and made one of my housemates choke Dr. Pepper through her nose.

But what made it was Bourdain's commentary "to make this stop, I was prepared to say anything. That Rachael Ray was a great chef, even."
