Thereabouts. Then they started doing ballads. Then they cut their hair.

"Where heather high my row-a-hoawammmmmmmmmmmm...." NO NO NO STFU JUST STOP JUST STOP NOW

I'm sure we could power the planet by hooking Cliff Burton's spinning corpse up to a generator.

I like the direction Metallica took. You can only write so many songs making Mad Libs from your Dungeons and Dragons source book.

Welcome Home Sanatorium is arguably a ballad and I think that was great.

i think they need to finally ride the lightning towards the light...

when the WWF or E or whatever the hell it is uses your songs... or worse you end up on the same album as limp dick bizkit and it's a tom cruise movie soundtrack it's time to quit...

or go to rehab and get really angry at the freaking millions you made over the years...

I've heard Load, I bought it. ReLoad too. Liked both of them and didn't find any arbitrary need to jump on the hater bandwagon just because they grew as artists and people.

I admit the last few years have been fucking terrible, especially that piece of shit "cry-u-mentary" they put out.

But from Kill Em All to Reload I like everything. S&M was cool too.

Or sit there, teary eyed, handing out glasses of champagne to mega-rich dicks who are buying the modern art pieces you bought over the years. Maybe if you'd spent more time learning to play less sloppy you WOULDN'T SUCK, LARS.

As to you being a latter day fan, hey, whatever blows your hair back, but - uh, yeah. They used to rub elbows with fans of Black Sabbath and Pantera. Now they rub elbows with fans of Buckcherry.

You kidding me? The rate WotC's pumping out sourcebooks these days, that's lifetime coverage for any band, including three failed post-peak reformations and off-hand inspiration for every opening act they'll ever share a flyer with.

i'll bet they didn't play my favorite song off that album that night though.

Death Magnetic is actually a pretty good album to me. I agree with everyone else though, Saint Anger sucked. How many years have they been playing with minimal lineup changes? The problem lies more in that their music is starting to be considered "softer metal" and "generic metal." But what can you do when you're one of the bands that basically created the speed/thrash metal sound in America? With the exception of Saint Anger, all their stuff sounds fairly similar, which is just weak compared to acts nowadays.

Like 'em or hate 'em, you've got to hand it to them for surviving this long. Not too many other bands are still around from when they started, just Slayer, Megadeath, and a small handful of others that constantly change lineups.

That's because they became more commercialized which opened up a whole new fan base for them. These other bands stayed true to their fans. We, on the forum, could go round and round on how they changed they're sound to grow as a band or just basically sold out, but the only real bands that I know that did in a way that still showed they were totally talented was the Beatles, The Stones, possibly Areosmith, and of course, Bowie.

    You left out Queen.

Anyway I'm all for the evolving... and that what they did was evolving, even tho I disliked that new cheesy style of theirs.

And yes... Lars is a asshole, not just professionally but personally too, and my favourite album is Master of Puppets too.

Yeah, I was pissed I missed Ozzfest this year since I could have actually had a chance to go. It would have been awesome seeing Apocolyptica and Metallica play in the same day, especially since half their set lists are the same...

I wish Ozzy was still playing. He's like the last band I liked growing up that I haven't gotten to see live.
