Societal norms and how we're raised have a lot to do with our expectations in relationships, and generally in our society we learn that we should be hurt if someone we love has sex with someone other than us. It's a tough thing to overcome, and I don't think anyone should feel like they *have* to overcome it, unless their feelings are really detrimental to their own happiness. I don't think it's necessary to have an "open" relationship/be polyamorous to be truly happy.
That being said, I think if it really *does* work for two people, more power to them. Gotta be really careful about it, though.
