If the spaceship is going to be a large "Warship", why not put a few "drone fighters"? Or Gun turrets manned by the crew, ala Millenium Falcon-esque.
I was going to suggest a final skin of battle scars, but since the final look was quite dark, they probably wouldn't show up.

It actually has two gun turrets on the back but they don't show up in the pics very well. I've since re-lit it so it's a little easier to see on the actual animated sequence.

I really hope to have my website up within the next couple of days so employers can see my demo reel and whatnot.
