Billy Corgan Speaks Out on Alex Jones Infowars

Billy Corgan just gave a really interesting interview on Alex Jones’ Infowars show where he talked about the dissonance some people are experiencing as they face the societal illusions being propagated by current Government entities and mainstream media, versus their own intuitive interpretation of the world they live in. His new album is titled Oceania, in reference to the tyrannized landscape portrayed in Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. Corgan makes some insightful points drawing analogy between rock-n-roll theatrical production and how modern media artificially turns up the emotional volume to drive the emotional engagement of its audience well beyond their logical threshold. He talks about Jim Morrison and crowd manipulation and the place of musicians in today’s world. I think he got his Ayn Rand a little wrong, but that’s pretty common these days. Sometimes even people who’ve read Atlas Shrugged miss the point about who the heroes really were in that story. But, that little peeve aside, he does outline some good observations about the modern culture of fear and Government paranoia. The interview gives a lot of insight into what the underlying theme and inspiration is for his new album Oceania. Happy Fourth of July everyone.
