What are Crystal FootUndeez for?

capezio crystal leopard print footundeez foot undeezForrest Black recently tweeted a link to Crystal FootUndeez by Capezio. I’ve mulled it over for at least a week now and I can’t figure out, for the life of me, what the purpose is for Foot Undeez. They do seem like the sort of item a person could develop a fetish for, but they must have some more primary purpose.

There is a store with a Capezio sign out front, near me in Hollywood, and I did a kinda 80’s doubletake the first time I saw it. I sort of thought that Capezio was like a hula-hoop for the 1980’s. Maybe it was kind of a Flashdance thing that dancewear was really in. And then it wasn’t. But dancers probably still wear leg-warmers. And I’m guessing not just dancers like Bella Vendetta, who wears leg-warmers somewhat ironically and more to play with fun loud colors than anything else. I think.

But I understand the putative purpose of leg warmers. Leg warmers keep your legs warm. Which is useful for dancers who have increased susceptibility to muscle strains if their calves are too cold when they do various moves and who may not be wearing a ton of other clothing to keep them cozy.

I understand that the purpose of peds is to keep your heels from getting all covered in foot germs and to avoid having to powder the insides, while still appearing sort of barefoot. Peds are particularly useful in shoe stores where customers don’t want to get shoes defaced with powder or other people’s foot cooties.

But the Capezio FootUndeez appear to be highly decorated, but still not very decorative, toeless and footless peds. According to their web site, Capezio has applied for a patent on Foot Undeez. My best guess is that FootUndeez give mild protection to the often abraded bottom front area of a dancer’s foot when she is practicing barefoot.

But I’m totally guessing here. Does anyone know what Capezio Crystal or leopard Print FootUndeez are for?
