Initially exclusively available to Kickstarter backers and people in the book, California Deathrock is now being made available via select booksellers. So La Luz is throwing a book signing party for us. We are thrilled to be at La Luz, the premiere lowbrow art gallery in Los Angeles, possibly in the world. Gallery Director Matt Kennedy writes, “Both authors will be present to sign books and discuss the scene they’ve been covering for twenty-five years, and trust us–their stories are good!” Come celebrate this gorgeous coffee table book, featuring a huge 172 pages of gothic punk portrait photography, with intense personality, and lush viscerally saturated colors.
Forrest Black and I will be at the La Luz de Jesus art gallery tonight, Friday, May 8, from 7pm to 10pm. Some of the best known and loved deathrock luminaries depicted in the book also plan to be present, including covergirl Malice McMunn (American Muscle, HBO Docs, Blue Blood), Elvorian Spivey (Penis Flytrap, Flytrap, Mi Diablo, The Veins), Thin Man (Ghastly, Element, Thin Man, Frankenstein), Shane David-Adalat (STG, Element, Dingbat), Meghan Sanders (Agent Aeon, Blue Blood), Alley Shiver (Wire Trap, Blue Blood), and more!
And the LA Weekly just made the California Deathrock book signing party their Go LA most highlighted pick of the week! Not only that, but it is their People 2015 issue and their People editions are one of the two most important issues of the year! The insightful article was written by Liz Ohanesian, an author who clearly got what she was writing about. As an artist, it is always a really really big deal for me when someone really understands my work.
