True Blood Season 2 – Can Vampires Grow or Dye Hair?

June 18th, 2009 by Amelia G

true blood season 2 teasersAs you all probably know, the HBO series True Blood, based on the Charlaine Harris novels, was one of my favorite new shows this past year, maybe my very favorite. The new season is kicking off with fun altmodel cam boy and local vampire blood dealer Lafayette Reynolds possibly in trouble and more murderous whodunit and more surprisingly well done and extended sex scenes. I’m not sure the first True Blood Season 2 teaser pics and True Blood Season 2 promo photos really do the show justice.

I am sure that a bunch of the product placement tie-in billboards and suchlike around Los Angeles are a bit cringe-inducing. There are billboards for motorcycles, cars, automotive insurance, and and Gillette razorblades and other not terribly vampy products. (I don’t necessarily want to give tons of bonus exposure to silly things advertised this way, but I have to give Gillette a shout-out because years ago I worked the product launch for the Gillette Sensor and it was the most awesome and creative technical theatre gig I ever saw.) Pale-skinned dark-haired vampy femme fatale Dita Von Teese says, “I don’t understand this vampire bandwagon. Just saw a billboard advertising razors that “vampires prefer”. Vampires don’t have to shave!” I could get into a dissertation about the necessary equilibrium between enjoying the success of what you love verus avoiding having what you love co-opted. But really this brings me to another much more pressing and vital concern about the new season of True Blood.

true blood season 2 teasersWhat is up with vampire hair on Alexander Skarsgaard? In the season opener, big wig vampire sheriff and nightclub impressario Eric Northman, played by the always charismatic yet unsettling Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd had foils in his hair. Like he was bleaching highlights in. It appears that he will be wearing shorter hair for Season 2. It is too early in this portion of the series to get into much philosophy of prejudice, or presentation of sexuality and sensuality in media, or the nature of the erotic, so I can’t help turning over and over in my head whether I feel like vampires should have to deal with hair growth. It would suck to have hair chopped off in a battle with another vampire if it could not grow back. If no regrowth were the case, then all vampire altercations would look like hair pulling catfights. It would suck to be turned on a day your hair dye was not fresh or you hadn’t shaved your shavable parts. Hair and nails do grow a bit after death, but not much. Would vampire hair just regrow to the length and/or shade it was at time of death?

Should the fictional undead require hair dye and razors? How do you want your media to handle vampire hair growth?

Dita Von Teese at Crazy Horse

March 26th, 2009 by Amelia G

Dita Von Teese Sparkle Horse

Dita Von Teese is currently performing her second sold out series of artistic burlesque performances at the Crazy Horse strip club in Paris, France. Every time I have seen Dita Von Teese perform, she has done something different. Whether she is rocking a glittering horse, a sudsy martini glass, portable fairy forest, or a bondage rope spiderweb, Dita earns her crown all over again every time she hits the stage.

She is also hard at work on a book of tips for glamour-queens-in-training who wish to emulate her classic beautiful burlesque look. I for one will be thrilled when various chicks who hope to model start emulating Dita Von Teese again, instead of thinking that any random assortment of tattoos makes them alt and sexy. I love well-considered original skin art, but I just don’t think counterculture and inked are synonymous. The reason we have women like Dita Von Teese in the mix on BlueBlood.com is that I feel she easily exemplifies being self-actualized, independent, and marching to the beat of one’s own drummer. If someone had told me sixteen years ago that some day I’d be turning away models because I felt like they got their tattoos for conformist reasons, I would have thought that could never happen. C’est la vie.

Sadly, I must also confess that I have had Motley Crue lyrics going through my head, ever since I first heard about Dita Von Teese performing at Crazy Horse in Paris France.

Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls Lyrics

Friday night and I need a fight
My motorcycle and a switchblade knife
Handful of grease in my hair feels right
But what I need to make me tight are

Girls, Girls, Girls
Long legs and burgundy lips
Girls,
Dancin’ down on Sunset Strip
Girls
Red lips, fingertips

Trick or treat-sweet to eat
On Halloween and New Year’s Eve
Yankee girls ya just can’t beat
But they’re the best when they’re off their feet

Girls, Girls, Girls
At the Dollhouse in Ft. Lauderdale
Girls, Girls. Girls
Rocking in Atlanta at Tattletails
Girls, Girls, Girls
Raising Hell at the 7th Veil Have you read the news
In the Soho Tribune
Ya know she did me
Well then she broke my heart

I’m such a good good boy
I just need e new toy
I tell ya what, girl
Dance for me, I’ll keep you overemployed
Just tell me a story
You know the one I mean

Crazy Horse, Paris, France
Forget the names, remember romance
I got the photos, a menage a trois
Musta broke those Frenchies laws with those

Girls, Girls. Girls
Body Shop. Marble Arch
Girls, Girls, Girls
Tropicana’s where I lost my heart

Girls, Girls, Girls

Keiko, Dita Von Teese, and Rose McGowan are Hot

March 5th, 2009 by Amelia G

Marquis Dita Fetish GoddessYesterday, the SpookyLinks Bump in the Night Spooky News blog featured Keiko, Dita Von Teese, Rose McGowan, Nicole Kidman, and Anne Hathaway. There is also some rough sex wrestling and group sex on SpookyLinks at the moment, so these links are definitely not all safe for work.

The Keiko shot is one I shot for BlueBlood VIP. It is from the punk rock bathroom series.

Dita Von Teese, like Keiko also appears on BlueBlood.com, but this work is by the talented Peter Czernich for a video Marquis did called Dita: Fetish Goddess – Part 2.

The Rose McGowan shots are from a nude scene she did for writer/director Gregg Araki’s Doom Generation cult sensation movie. I am not a fan of Gregg Araki’s ending for that film, although I enjoy a world where everything costs $6.66. The most remarkable aspects of Gregg Araki’s work are firstly that he captures underground and subculture worlds in a surreal yet realistic way and he has some seriously good production values when it comes to men, but he can still discover talent like Rose McGowan among the female hotties.

Dita Von Teese Wonderbra Launch

September 25th, 2008 by Amelia G

Last week, superstar Dita Von Teese launched her Wonderbra special glamour collection. There was some scuttlebutt that her supposedly scandalous past was going to somehow mess up the deal. Personally, given that Dita Von Teese first became famous for her unique sexiness, I think the rumors that she might lose the Wonderbra campaign over it were either astroturf or more likely haters. Yes, that’s right, a beautiful woman who creates and really embodies her own individual style can go as naked and as naughty and as fetish as she likes and still have the world revolve around her. Dita Von Teese is simply a combination of someone who was special to begin with and also was willing to plan and work really really hard. Kudos to her. The video above has some info on the Sexy Science by Dita launch and the video below has the smashingly hot and fun commercial for the lingerie line. I haven’t tried any of it on yet, but I’ll keep y’all posted.
